Bay Area transit is thirsty for taxes, because ridership is down.
But they already have their mouths on a funding firehose.
Besides 10 existing sales taxes, guess how many ways we fund them without a new tax?
We are not their ATM.

This is the Great Highway Compromise. 👇
Share access for everyone on weekdays.
20,000 daily commuters could use the Great Highway while cyclists used the bike lanes on both sides, and people walked their dogs and enjoyed ocean views from the elevated paved pathways. Weekends and holidays remain car-free for recreation. That's a fair share.
For years, people shared 2-mile Great Highway and made the compromise work.
The Sunset Dunes park is 50-acre, not 2-mile.
Why insist on absolutely no sharing and absolutely no compromise? There's enough room for everyone.
San Francisco can have both safe streets and great parks. SF can Compromise.

Hi Sam. I live here in San Jose. VTA does not need the money. They admitted this publicly. Voters already passed Measure RR in 2020 to provide a dedicated sales tax and Caltrain promised to be fiscally secure. We were promised that would solve their funding problem. Whoops. 1/5
Replying to @ThunderParley
Hi Thunder. Around my home in Santa Clara County, the measure will generate $285 million a year for transit service, and the income profile of transit-dependent residents is far lower than the general population. Nobody on the Right seems to gripe, though, about the inequity that American taxpayers subsidize Big Oil to the tune of $3.8 billion annually in special tax credits, deductions, accelerated depreciation, and other subsidies. congress.gov/crs_external_pr…

Measure RTM is not about helping local residents. It is just using Santa Clara County taxpayers to bail out San Francisco riders which are ~80% of the transit debt. Ridership has declined for a decade and costs are spiraling. Even BART is running 18.5% more service than 2019. 3/5

You also claim the income profile of transit-dependent residents is "far lower" than the general population. Yet Caltrain average rider makes $171,000. That actually exceeds the median household income in Santa Clara County. 2/5

You yourself recognized that extending BART past Diridon to Santa Clara was redundant and unnecessary. When is VTA going to start showing some fiscal responsibility?

There goes bay area @kron4news again disguising political propaganda by transit "insiders" as just an ordinary "report", to help pass all the local tax increases on the ballot. Pretty sure they have an ethical obligation to disclose the bias of the "report" that says you should dump your car and rely only on transit.

When we say SFMTA has zero incentive to fix or reduce their budget if both Prop H and RTM pass in November…We mean it.
SFMTA is banking on both measures to pass so they can please labor unions. Instead of reducing attrition/absenteeism, overtime spending, and more.
Vote NO on Prop H and Prop RTM.

Ignores a few important things, but then again, it comes from a pro-transit agency that wants to keep its funding:
1. increase in travel time
2. loss of convenience - stopping for groceries on way home, going to gym, etc.
3. carrying groceries home in the rain
4. if people switch from cars, which fund the roads (e.g. via gas tax, EV fee, DMV fees, bridge tolls), then how is that funding loss recovered?
- We still need roads for Fire, Police, Last Mile Deliveries, Trucks, bikes, scooters, oh, and Buses, you know, Transit.

Is it any surprise that the corporations and unions who make money off transit are 97% of the donations to the RTM campaign?
It's cheaper for them to fund a campaign to tax us, than to pay their fair share of the profits they make from transporting workers and customers to them...

Medi-Cal has expanded to a $218 billion program: the state's largest. So you'd think the State would invest adequately in program integrity. But that is not what the State Auditor found. Plenty of waste, fraud, and abuse and not a lot of people trying to root it out.
