Slop everywhere! Prevent weird conflicts with AGENTS .md, and stay DRY:
"autoMemoryEnabled": false
Claude no longer reads or writes the memory folder.
"autoDreamEnabled": false
the background step that tidies memories is off as well.
in ~/.claude/settings.json
Claude Desktop's task list and wrap-up boxes confusing and in your way? Add to ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md:
"Don't use the task list (update_plan) or the wrap-up box (wrap_up). Reply in plain linear chat; ask questions in the message text."
Probably keeps context cleaner too 🙌
"A few vblanks" - good old times!
I had a similar reaction. Everyone should applaud performance improvements, but gauge against the “speed of light”, not just a sloppy competitor. If you are measuring in seconds, you may have already anchored yourself incorrectly.
Structure the UI so you can put locally cached media up just a few vblanks after the process launches.
Structure the server so it can return everything necessary for the dynamic UI in one single query that was kicked off in parallel with the Gfx API initialization, branching to a modern transport protocol for large media files.
You should be able to double click on the launcher and have it responsive before your muscle memory can slam the pointer to a location to click on.
. @steipete included the follow-claude-desktop feature into CodexBar, as per my tickets ❤️
I made a tiny macOS usage bar for Claude Desktop. It follows whichever account you're signed into, all accounts at a glance.
Couldn't find one that did this, so I built it:
github.com/flutterrausch/cla…
Not a single use case in the comments.
You better turn off this "lose context" thing.
on the vibecoded adobe suite
i think both the effort and the expectations are completely misplaced. illustrator is 39 years old, photoshop 36. people really did expect to catch up in two weeks.
attacking the full suite makes no sense. if you’ve been using photoshop, indesign, or illustrator for 20 years, you’d have opinions. you’d notice even the smallest inconveniences and have ideas for how to improve your workflows. with ai, you’re finally in a position to make bespoke software that serves you perfectly and brings you joy.
look at aseprite, which specializes in pixel art. losslesscut, which does one thing premiere makes unnecessarily complicated. photopea, which started as a browser-based psd viewer and grew into a serious editor over 14 years. figma, which rethought design around collaboration.
each of these projects has a point of view. each understands something about how people actually work.
instead, we get seven adobe-shaped applications, recreating the surface without understanding what led to the underlying decisions. not an alternative vision for creative software, just a checklist of features to imitate.
it’s slopware, and it trivializes decades of genuine attempts to free people from adobe.
the tragedy is that we finally have the tools to make the software we actually want, and instead we’re making the software we already have.
and if you needed any more evidence that this was never about making better software, having finished 40 years of adobe development in two weeks, he’s now moving on to microsoft office.

Most usage trackers are built for Claude Code, not the desktop app. They don't follow its account switches, so they keep showing the old account.
Greetings to your clanker.
TIL that design / re-design should start without ANY context. Like
"Check the app - it's mighty ugly. Redesign it - make it a clean fresh professional UI."
I was nitpicking on a lot of details in the thread before, so I got a nitpicky overloaded nerd design 😎
