He did this despite pressure from politicians to have him removed from performing altogether. 2 months later, same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia.

I lived overseas in two different countries and have travelled to many more. No one has ever expressed this view to me. Many, however, asked about the terrible plight of indigenous Australians. Welcome to country is a tiny acknowledgement of their culture and I’m proud of it!
The endless, performative racial symbolism in Australia is doing us no favours on the international stage. We’re increasingly being openly mocked overseas for rituals that have become excessive, unnecessary, costly and ubiquitous. Respect for Indigenous Australians does not require turning every sporting event, meeting or public occasion into a racial ceremony. Vote One Nation and let’s end this rubbish for good.
