Eng., from the Laboratory for Testing of Materials and Structures (Department of Experimental Mechanics, IPPT PAN), received the Best Presentation Award at the 42nd Danubia-Adria Symposium on Advances in Experimental Mechanics, held in Split, Croatia.
🔬 Her award-winning presentation, titled “Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Thermomechanical Behaviour of 304 Stainless Steel during LENS Additive Manufacturing”, focused on analyzing 304 stainless steel behavior during LENS additive manufacturing. The study combined numerical modeling of thermal history and deformation with experimental validation using temperature measurements and Digital Image Correlation (DIC).
This research was conducted as part of the National Science Centre (NCN) project "The influence of the thermal history on the microstructure and mechanical properties of additively manufactured materials" (No. 2022/47/I/ST5/00697), led by Prof. Polański from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw.
👏 Warmest congratulations to Izabela! We wish her continued scientific success, inspiring research challenges, and endless passion for discovery!

📝Topic: Quantum Computers: A New Era of Computing and the Challenges of the Future of Computer Science
Abstract
Traditional computers, based on silicon transistors, are slowly reaching the limits of their physical capabilities. The answer to this limitation is quantum computing - a field that combines advanced physics with information theory. It utilizes unique phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to process data in ways that are beyond the capabilities of today's supercomputers.
During the session, we will review the current state of commercial quantum systems. Rather than focusing on theory, we will analyze how these machines are actually built and why they require extreme operating conditions. Key topics:
1. From bits to qubits.
2. How does a quantum unit of information differ from a traditional one, and what does this mean for computational speed?
3. How major tech corporations are making quantum computing power available to programmers and scientists around the world.
4. Why quantum computers are forcing us to change current data encryption methods, and what "quantum-resistant" cryptography looks like.
5. The Future of the Industry: In which fields—from medicine to artificial intelligence—do we expect the biggest breakthroughs in the coming decade?
The seminar goal's is to separate fact from fiction and show what stage of development this revolutionary technology is currently at.

🚀 BASIA in Field Testing!
Three-day operational usability tests of the #BASIA demonstrator (Passive Aerostatic Information and Analytical System) were successfully conducted in Wędrzyn. The tests took place as part of the “Dzielny Bóbr 2026” military exercise, aimed at evaluating the integration of reconnaissance and fire support capabilities in real-world range conditions.
IPPT PAN is actively involved in developing this cutting-edge solution. For over five years, our team has been conducting R&D work on aerostat design, funded primarily by the National Centre for Research and Development (@NCBR_pl).
🔍 How does BASIA work?
The system utilizes an aerostat platform to elevate sensors for continuous air and surface surveillance. A key function of the system is supporting the detection of low-flying objects, including small unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
Testing the demonstrator during field exercises provides invaluable data on its operational performance under realistic conditions - an essential milestone in advancing the technology further.
The BASIA project is carried out in collaboration with academic and industrial partners. IPPT PAN’s participation highlights the impact of research and development in delivering practical, advanced technologies for national security and defense.

📝Topic: The energy approach to deformation banding in crystal plasticity with internal length scales
Abstract:
The incremental energy minimization method is employed within a general thermodynamic framework for gradient plasticity. This forms the theoretical basis for predicting microstructure formation in the presence of internal length scales. The analysis is specified for the simplest Cosserat model of rate-independent crystal elastoplasticity at small strain, which is sufficient to demonstrate the regularizing effect of lattice rotation and curvature, both analytically and by finite element calculations. It has been shown that deformation banding is energetically favourable with respect to uniform straining, provided that the latent-to-self hardening ratio in the conventional crystal hardening law exceeds unity and the domain size of calculations exceeds a critical length established analytically.
How do we look inside materials? Through modeling.
From the atomic scale to the microstructure, numerical models help us understand complex material behavior. At the recent #ICMM9 conference in Prague, researchers from IPPT PAN- Prof. Paweł Dłużewski, Dr. Deepjyoti Dhar, MSc. Hojjat Mousavisogolitappeh, and MSc. Mahdi Neghabi - shared cutting-edge findings on residual stresses, phase-field modeling, shape memory alloys, and radiation-induced embrittlement.
