I bow in deep respect and salute the extraordinary courage, presence of mind and unyielding valour of Captain Smit Machchhar. Aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, on its journey from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Captain Machchhar faced an unthinkable crisis high in the skies. Despite being stabbed and grievously wounded inside the cockpit, his indomitable spirit never wavered. He fought back resolutely and managed to overpower the attacker and avert a catastrophic mid-air disaster. Through his supreme bravery he saved the lives of 174 passengers and crew on board, including citizens of Israel and other nations. Captain Machchhar’s valour is a shining reflection of India’s timeless civilisational ethos; Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and the sacred duty of placing the safety of innocent lives above one’s own. In safeguarding human lives mid-air, his heroic act has touched hearts across the globe and further deepened the enduring bond of friendship, trust and mutual respect between India and Israel. Captain Machchhar has made our entire nation swell with immense pride. On behalf of the people of West Bengal, I convey our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to this brave son of India. I commend the Officers and Personnel of the @KolkataPolice STF in successfully tracking and apprehending Asim Mandal @ Akash, Central Committee Member and Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee-I, CPI (Maoist), from Lalat; Patashpur, Purba Medinipur. Evading law enforcement for more than 15 years across inter-state forest belts, his apprehension on the basis of sharp technical intelligence demonstrates the exceptional operational competence of our Police Force. I want to make it categorically clear that West Bengal Government will not tolerate any attempt to revive or expand the network of 'Red Terror' within our State borders. No extremist ideology will be allowed to jeopardize the safety & security of the People and jeopardize the development of our State. The law will take its strictest course to demolish any such audacious attempt.

The sacred thread of Rakhi is a timeless symbol of love, cultural heritage and unbroken unity. Deeply honoured to participate in the grand Rakhi Bandhan Utsav 2026 held at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata, as well as joined the vibrant celebrations across the Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency, celebrating the enduring bond of fraternity alongside sisters, daughters and Police personnel who tied the sacred thread. Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal organized the auspicious ceremony themed 'Rashtrabader Bandhan' (Bond of Nationalism) at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata. We paid tribute to Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore and our venerable National icons and shared the joy of Rakhi with dedicated dignitaries, artists, and citizens. On 16th August, 1946, our beloved Kolkata plunged into a horrific abyss of violence and bloodshed, forever etched in our collective memory as "Direct Action Day" and "The Great Calcutta Killings." This date marks a dark and tragic chapter in our history, where communal hatred was unleashed by the then regime, claiming thousands of innocent lives. I bow my head in solemn remembrance of all those who perished during those calamitous days. Their suffering and the magnitude of loss must never be forgotten. Let us pledge to learn from the mistakes of the past so that we may never again witness such a horrific breakdown of humanity, fuelled by appeasement politics.
