Promoter of rfc2460 rfc8200 What is required to get ISPs to provide IPv6? They say "there is no demand". What if sites show warnings for missing IPv6 support?

Does IPv4 CGNAT potentially make ISPs violate net neutrality by giving sites available over IPv6 an "unfair advantage"? Is there anything similar, but for service providers which give unfair advantage to any particular ISP? Could that be used to argue IPv6 required?

We love to joke about security via obscurity, but it's not completely without merit for #IPv6, I setup a throwaway Win 10 box in Vultr and gave it an IPv6 GUA. There are no scanning hits on the FW externally for that box (2+ weeks timeframe) which is currently open to the IPv6 Internet for RDP on that host. I'm not sure how an attacker would ever find it tbh. Note: Before the infosec types jump in and vehemently suggest this shouldn't be the only layer of security, i'm not suggesting this is a prod setup...only observations from a test environment.

Did I really want to read these university slides today? It's 30+ years since CIDR and 25+ years since IPv6. There are ~60 slides about IPv4 and NAT and then 6 slides about IPv6 … why can't they teach IPv6 first? 😭 (cc @noIPv6)

boosting for reach/visibility: "Congratulations to #Microsoft for the bold technology leader decision to launch a privacy VPN product in 2024 with no #IPv6 support. 😑 I'm not surprised, just disappointed." cc @microsoft @jepaynemsft @phillip_misner @yo_yo_yo_jbo @ravivtamir

I've fully terminated employment-based model for myself and going full time as a contractor/consultant/B2B-only. If anyone wants/needs (or knows someone who does) a network guy who's #IPv6-centric for both SP and DC networking, feel free to DM/Reach out to me!

New PCAPs: 🚨 1. DHCP opt108 and PREF64 full-flow in "network services" with HTTP test 2. Some NETBIOS also there (might as well add it) 3. IPv6 RA RDNSS in "icmp" with DNS + ping test njrusmc.net/jobaid/jobaid.ht…
Took a few hours, but got CLAT46 working on MacOS using a mix of stateless DHCPv6, DHCPv4 option 108, IPv6 RA NAT64 prefix option, dual-stacked DNS, and "curl" to test web access. Involved to setup and evaluate, but satisfying. Will post in PCAP library soon.

@HPE @Aruba Did you really mean to use a /24 #IPv6 prefix length in your ArubaOS-CX docs? #IPv4Thinking techhub.hpe.com/eginfolib/Ar…

I keep seeing people having trouble with native #IPv6 #networking on @Docker—Mostly due to poor docs/examples + IPv4-centric mindset. I'm hoping to change that here: github.com/docker/docs/issue… I've personally been using native v6, for years with no problems: teapawt.net/DaryllSwer/status/1753…
Here's an example of my *native* #IPv6 Docker config. No NAT66 crap that would break P2P/End-to-End principle and force ALG to come into play, possibly TURN as well. Each container get native IPv6 addressing.

It's been over a quarter of a century. Time to start calling it "Legacy IP".

I'm curious if this will lead to the end of @TMobile_CZE which is one of three mobile operator in Czechia. @TMobile_CZE is the only operator ignoring #IPv6. They are ignoring all questions about #IPv6, too. No plans, no future, stone age.

Big news! Yesterday, the Czech government approved a resolution that on June 6, 2032 (20 years after so called IPv6 launch day), it will end the provision of government services over IPv4. 👏 Who is gonna join us?

Czech government is going to discontinue providing services over #IPv4 and is going full #IPv6only in 2032. If government gets it, so should you. Don't embrace #IPv6 later than civil service. #IPv6isTheFuture
"Česká vláda udělala protokolu IPv4 pápá." Ne, samozřejmě je to složitější, ale usnesení společně s již schválenou vyhláškou @agentura_dia přináší restart podpory protokolu #IPv6 v Česku. Více na blogu @CZ_NIC a @Lupacz. lupa.cz/clanky/kratke-vlny-v…

.@Infoblox: You're not really captioning the first and last IPv6 address out of a subnet as "network" and "broadcast"?!? AHHH!!! #IPv4Thinking @cricketondns @ipv6buzz @noIPv6 @Enno_Insinuator

Last day of 2023 marked a record for Google in terms of #IPv6 google.com/intl/en/ipv6/stat… 45.28% of all requests towards Google came using modern IP protocol. It means that almost every second request came from a client/device which has an IPv6 address. Latency of IPv6 also demonstrates better performance when compared to legacy IPv4: upwards of 50ms LESS time over IPv6 than on legacy IPv4. What is your plan for IPv6 in 2024?

IMO advertising for "partial" internet connections which don't support IPv6 should be obliged to disclose this clearly – e.g. perhaps using this "legacy IP only" mark.
