Very excited to finally launch deep research!

as a kid, I was obsessed with geography.
now with chat’s intelligent UI, i get to continue learning about the places i get to travel to - like recently to Maui with interactive diagrams of its microclimates and its inversion compared to SF’s! go try it out!
“my goat”
intelligence just got a major facelift— and with @AndrewHojel (+many others) we made it way faster as well :)
amazing work hessam!
Very excited to be upgrading the human/AGI interface with my colleagues 🌈
So much of what AI does happens offscreen: searching the internet, reading your documents, making restaurant reservations, and doing real work on your behalf.
With intelligent UI, we’re upgrading the work AI does on your screen. The goal is to meet our eyes and cognitive processes at a place of more calm, clarity, and joy.
This is a first step. We are going to continue on this endeavor. If you have ideas, feedback, or design mockups, please reach out!

Excited to see GPT-6 launch with Intelligent UI today! 🎨
I’ve been working on training the model to go beyond text — learning to create rich, interactive interfaces on the fly, make thoughtful design decisions, and know when visuals are better than words.
It’s been an incredibly fun research challenge to teach models a new way to communicate. So proud of what the team has built! 🚀
In the words of the gen ui queen herself:
So excited to be launching GPT-6 today with Intelligent UI to everyone in ChatGPT! The model can now create custom visual and interactive responses on the fly, as quickly as it generates text. 🎨
ChatGPT launched in 2022 as a text-only low-key research preview. While the product has evolved a lot since then, responses have largely remained text-based. With Intelligent UI, we wanted to rethink the interface from the ground up and give our models more ways to communicate visually. Getting to shape the research direction behind that vision has been especially rewarding.
We built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that renders interfaces progressively as the model generates them. This combines a familiar design foundation with the flexibility to compose each response dynamically. We trained GPT-6 to use this library to create clear, useful interfaces and make thoughtful design decisions—including when interactivity helps and when simple text is enough.
Making this work meant thinking about model behavior, product design, and engineering scaling requirements together. It’s been awesome working through these challenges with folks across research, engineering, design, and product over the last few months.
I’m a visual learner, so this is a game changer for me. Some of my favorite uses so far have been planning trips, practicing my Italian, learning new concepts, and shopping.
Give it a try and let us know what you think! Rolling out starting today to Plus, and expanding tomorrow to Free and Go.

Our goal was to push the Pareto frontier of perceived latency and utility. I like this graph because it shows that GPT-6 Extra High begins writing its answer at the speed of GPT-5.6 Medium while outperforming GPT-5.6 Extra High on an internal consumer agentic eval.
I’m so excited to launch GPT-6 today with intelligent UI and the ability to start answering while still thinking! This is the result of many months of work from our team and so many amazing collaborators.
With intelligent UI, the model can choose how to present information in the way that’s most useful to you, e.g. an interactive explanation of how a violin produces sound or a calculator to double or triple a recipe. We wanted to give the model a richer way to express itself while keeping the experience fast and familiar, and the answers comprehensive and factual. I especially love it for shopping :)
We built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that renders the interface as the model generates it. We trained the model to make thoughtful design decisions with these components, including when to use something interactive and when plain text still works best.
GPT-6 can also start answering while it continues to think and work in the background. It builds up its answer as it goes, so you don’t have to wait to start reading useful content. This feels especially good for research queries. I remember talking about wanting this two years ago when we were working on deep research, and I’m so happy we finally get to ship it!
We trained the model to take your waiting time into account and build an answer across multiple partial responses. Each should add useful information based on what it knows and has found so far, while keeping the full answer cohesive and accurate.
Let us know what you think!!

following up after astra launch week and the navier-stokes announcement i wanted to share a little bit about how we think about and build for the over 1 billion people who use chatgpt every week, most of whom use it for free. we’re on a mission to distribute the benefits of agi, and i think this is the most impactful way to do that: giving people as much access as we can safely and feasibly distribute. we want to scale the utility that everyone gets from ai.
over the past 6 months, we've been working to bring the greatest possible capabilities to the broadest possible set of users, including both free and paying users. of course there are some practical limitations and we can’t ship the largest models to everyone, but since march (gpt-5.3 instant), we’ve improved the default chatgpt experience meaningfully:
- responses with a major factual error are down 65%, and they are down 72% in high stakes categories like finance
- gpt-5.6 sol at instant and gpt-5.6 luna at medium are smarter than o3 at high reasoning effort, our frontier reasoning model from 17 months ago, while being considerably faster, 30%+ faster time to last token (evaluated via GPQA diamond)
- chatgpt is far more usable and enjoyable while bringing extreme sycophancy down 80% and overall sycophancy down 83%
- on our high-stakes medical eval, chatgpt produced 83% fewer answers flagged for hallucinations, resulting in hundreds of millions of better health conversations per month
- we're seeing people find more ways to use chatgpt. for a recently joined cohort, we saw the number of use cases pursued at least three times weekly go up 20-30%
not only have we improved the default chatgpt experience dramatically, we’ve also expanded access significantly for all. free users now:
- have access to unlimited text chats
- can use higher reasoning effort
- now have access to automations, letting them schedule tasks to happen later
- have access to better memory through dreaming. this allows chat to personalize much more effectively
we’re always looking for ways to expand access to the billion+ people who use our product weekly. this is the master plan: bring the default experience as close to the capability frontier as possible, expand access to everyone, making intelligence maximally abundant, and make our product much more usable.
this last point, usability, is something we’ve been focusing on as we bring personal agi to everyone. the current top of the line capabilities are staggering, but only the savviest users and insiders know how to use them. our vision is of a progressive, model assisted, onboarding to agi. chatgpt will guide people from all walks of life to the highest utility applications of ai for them. this really is the only way – we think technology that is hard to learn ultimately fails to reach a broad audience. your personal agi will just understand your goals, and automatically use the right set of features and capabilities to get things done for you
lots more to come soon. onwards to scaling utility for all
:time-to-queen-out:
we shipped gpt-5.5 instant today to chat; it's rolling out over the next couple days to everyone. for this model, we focused on factuality, crushing hacks, and improving the baseline intelligence. 5.5 is a pretty big step forward on all three. it is much smarter, significantly less likely to hallucinate, and just more delightful to talk to. there is always more to do but i'm pretty excited about this one!

Had a blast working on search capabilities for 5.3 Instant. Hopefully you notice that search responses feel more 🤌
Replying to @OpenAI
GPT-5.3 Instant gives you more accurate answers. When using web search, you also get:
- Sharper contextualization
- Better understanding of question subtext
- More consistent response tone within the chat

Working on 5.3 Instant was awesome, I hope you enjoy the new web search experience!
This was the second model I got to work on with @ManukaStratta and I can now confidently say she’s actually a data center of geniuses in a trenchcoat. Incredible endurance and attention to detail. This model wouldn’t be possible without her!
