Statement by Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 Foreign Ministry: As an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s role in promoting regional and international dialogue and peace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the visit by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Defense, and representatives of the countries party to the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, to the Iranian capital, Tehran, to meet with senior Iranian officials, comes as part of the continued efforts by the countries party to the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement to de-escalate tensions between the parties to the current crisis, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support the mediation efforts being undertaken by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The Kingdom looks forward to the parties to the crisis engaging positively and constructively with the outcomes of this visit and with the ongoing efforts by Qatar and Pakistan to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy, stressing the importance of opening channels for negotiations in order to prevent a return to military escalation in the region and pave the way toward reaching an agreement that ends the crisis and achieves security and peace in the region and the world. The Kingdom reaffirms its emphasis on the pivotal role of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement in supporting the security and stability of the region and working with all states to ensure the achievement of peace in the region and the world.
