Need some advice from people who actually know cybersecurity, because I recently had a pretty concerning experience.
My PC was compromised, and the craziest part was that the attacker somehow managed to display a fake notification inside Steam itself, making it look like a legitimate Steam message.
It wasn't just some random browser popup. It appeared to be part of Steam, which is what makes this so concerning. How much access would someone need to pull something like that off?
While investigating, I also discovered that a suspicious process called WinSecCore was running on my PC and that my system's proxy settings had been modified without my permission.
The worrying part is that I was actively using the PC throughout all of this, logged into Steam, various personal accounts, and crypto trading platforms.
Fortunately, nothing appears to have been stolen, and all my crypto funds are still there.
I've since completely reset Windows. The suspicious process and modified proxy settings are now gone.
I've attached screenshots of the suspicious Steam notification and related activity.
They tried taking my steam inventory but not a single penny dissapeared from trading accounts.
