I cannot get over the insane decision by Tony Khan & these childish ‘EVP’s to air that footage from Wembley on TV. It proved CM Punk to be bang on the money when he said Khan ‘was in a different business’. I’ve always said threads of reality running through storylines is what makes pro-wrestling like nothing else in entertainment. It builds intrigue and unpredictably; rivalries based on personal animosity can be absolutely sensational… but ONLY when it serves to build stars, build business and make money for YOUR company. How, in any way whatsoever, does AEW and their BUSINESS benefit from doing this?! Quick answer, it doesn’t. It actually only serves to build up WWE even further. By airing this security footage - out of desperation and personal spite alone - the only thing AEW has done here is make their own talent, creative and leadership look extremely weak and make Punk look honest, sensible and - let’s be frank - cool. Fans in the arena at AEW Dynamite were watching on cheering for and chanting CM Punk’s name… one of WWE’s biggest stars. Oh dear. I truly want AEW to succeed. Competition breeds excellence and make no mistake, Cody Rhodes’ remarkable WrestleMania moment wouldn’t have happened without AEW. But, very sadly, this was a terrible, terrible decision that will only drive away audiences. It’s worse than WCW in 2000… and look what happened there.
