Last week @conservmillen said something that caught my ear—the Bible doesn’t talk about ethnic diversity in the church. Here, I try and unpack why she’s (kind of) right, but still missing the point.

this makes me very sad. there are thousands of sam seys out there: good parents, good kids, good workers, good citizens, who’ve been ripped away from their families, jobs, churches, and lives by this horrible agency. May God protect and keep them all, and may justice rain down.
I have received a statement from DHS regarding Sam Sey:
“On October 21, ICE arrested Samuel Sey, an illegal alien from Ghana, at the Columbus International Airport. Sey entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his length of admission by over four years, in violation of our nation’s laws. Sey has no pending applications and accepted voluntary departure. He will remain in ICE custody until removed from the United States.
“We do not pick and choose which laws to enforce or where to enforce them.
“We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.” - DHS SPOX
As I get more information, I will update.
I can't stop engaging with @Isaacbsharp, apparently. (In fairness, this is a repost of an older article)

Update! I have received a thoughtful note today from @CTmagazine's Erik Petrik, emphasizing that the temporary disappearance of my article “was not an issue of” of my “reporting, writing, or point of view.” I can't say how much I appreciate this.
Great news! Although I still can't find a direct contact from CT, my essay is back! christianitytoday.com/2026/1…
The other disheartening thing about the Elliot discourse is Virginia Mollenkott is seen as diabolical or slippery purely by virtue of her sexuality and her feminist activism.
It’s always pure motives for those placed on the good team and pure agenda for those deemed enemy.

Fun convo I had with the folks over at the @anxious_bench about the “mainline moment” in American politics and how that relates to Evangelicals™️, Protestantism more broadly, and even Southern Baptists!

First podcast episode here! Isaac Sharp, author of The Other Evangelicals, joins me to talk about evangelicals, the mainline, and the messy middle.

Re: the out-of-pocket replies to @LucySRAusten’s piece at @CTmagazine—
Everyone knows it’s the historian’s role to try and discern dead people’s inner lives using limited and often ambiguous material artifacts, right?
My conversation with @Isaacbsharp for the Anxious Bench.

Very disappointed to see this piece pulled, especially given how careful, gracious and respectful Lucy has proven to be.
Never let good history get in the way of a better hagiography, I guess.
I have an article out today in @CTmagazine discussing new source material on the life of Elisabeth Elliot.
