I should definitely spend a lot of time reading Ken Brown's group cohomology book

I finally watched Blue Velvet last night. What a film. Perhaps it's recency bias, but I think it's my favourite Lynch so far....

Every time I open Milnor’s characteristic classes book I have to hold back tears of joy

Lovely
A morning spent meditating on the functorial properties of the homotopy cokernel is a morning well spent

My enthusiasm for reading a math paper increases tenfold when I see something like this

Is the best way to learn GAGA just reading Serre's original stuff? Do I need to recall my Grade 10 French?

I really love math, and I hope I can contribute to it as a human being

In addition to being a great mathematician, John is a really nice guy. I emailed him while I was in high school, and he was kind enough to have a video call with me, during which I probably asked him some very stupid questions!
FYI this is John Urschel he's a former NFL player, and currently an assistant professor of Mathematics at @MIT

This appears to be an amazing result, and the authors should be commended, but the introduction reads as a tragedy. I don't think math can sustainably perpetuate or grow if this becomes the norm (people forced to use LLMs to construct ad-hoc proofs out of fear of being too slow)
Hilbert’s 12th problem for real quadratic fields is solved and thus SIC-POVM problem (Zauner's conjecture) is resolved! danrad.net/papers/stark-reci…

Gen Z Rand-enjoyer reporting for duty
Gen X, I suspect, was the last generation of Ayn Rand fanatics. My students have never heard of her *shrug.*

The story of humanity is not that of some idiotic sci-fi novel. The most reckless of the AI boosters' opinions are rapidly tending towards Heaven's Gate territory.
Propagating super intelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader

Have I finally conquered my aversion to anything that isn’t geometry/topology?
