Pete Crow-Armstrong says the mental side of baseball is still the part he struggles with most, and says he’s hired a mental skills coach to help with his process because if he unlocks that part he could reach Aaron Judge’s tier “That’s probably the last piece to the puzzle for me. I know my swing is always going to, I could be Aaron Judge, and his swing doesn’t always feel great. So the mental part really feels like the last thing that can take me to another level.” “That’s what I’m still figuring out. I don’t really know yet. I’ve done the therapy thing. I’ve talked to mental-skills people. But there’s definitely always something that drives you. I love playing baseball, and I love how difficult the sport is. There’s something new about it every day. You’re constantly learning. You’re making do with what you’ve got that day, and I think that’s super special.” “Honestly, the days you wake up feeling like death are probably my favorite days, because you’re like, ‘How are you going to make this work today?’ But I’m not really the one to talk about the mental side of things just yet, because I struggle with that the most. So I just try to take little bits and pieces from dudes I admire, mostly guys on my team.” “Last year, Justin Turner was a big one, just because he has so many years of experience. But Nico Hoerner is probably somebody whose mindset I admire the most. He talked to me about being kind to yourself and being emotionally aware, because the season is so long. You forget how you’re actually feeling sometimes when everything is about baseball.” “He’s like your model baseball player. If I had kids, I’d be like, ‘Watch how he runs to first base and then comes back to the dugout.’ He’s wired all the time. He lets his emotions out when the time calls for it, but other than that, he’s super stoic. So I lean on him very heavily.”

Tonight Luther Burden III went for 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a Chicago Bears win. Here is the man who got him there. His dad is Luther Burden Jr. He was a basketball star at Saint Louis University who once scored 36 in a game. In 1987 he was arrested for selling drugs and he served a year. Then he spent his son's entire childhood working two jobs. An overnight shift at Walmart, eleven at night to seven in the morning, and then five more hours as a caregiver at a hospital. Here is what the son says about that. "He made sure I didn't go down that path." "That's my best friend." His dad beat him at basketball until he cried. He has said so himself. "I used to make him cry playing basketball." Burden grew up in north St. Louis, the second youngest of ten children. Nine sisters. In fifth grade he dislocated his elbow and went on playing on it. Here is the part nobody writes. His dad went looking for a way to get him out early. "I kept my ear to the ground, and I wondered how these kids graduate early." So for his last year he moved him across the river to East St. Louis Senior High School in Illinois, because there he could finish in December instead of May. A man working two shifts found the loophole and bought his son six months. "I love St. Louis, but it's not the place for a young Black man. There's too much going on." By then Burden was the number one wide receiver recruit in the country. Alabama wanted him. So did Georgia and Oklahoma. He picked Missouri. "Go somewhere where you're needed instead of where you're wanted." "I wanted to be close to my family." Now the other man in this. Demetrious Johnson grew up in St. Louis, played at Missouri and then in the NFL, and became a friend of the family. He said he looked at Burden like he was his own son. Johnson passed away on Christmas Eve in 2022. He was 61. Burden has been giving football camps away for free ever since. At the Boys and Girls Club in St. Louis, and at East St. Louis Senior High School, the place his dad sent him. "He definitely inspired me to always give back to your community and where you came from." "I cherish him every second I can." His dad came out of a diabetic coma five years ago and stacks groceries at a distribution center now. But here is the last thing about the two men named Luther Burden. The son had never seen film of his dad playing until a television crew sat him down and showed it to him.

At Beverly CC on Chicago's South Side. Might be a good time for the board to call an emergency meeting to consider going men-only...

Just as he did at the 2025 @TheMasters , 2024 U.S. Amateur runner-up @NoahKent_Golf is wearing a Miakka Golf Club hat. Designed by his stepfather, Dana Fry, and Jason Straka, Miakka Golf Club is inspired by Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath. 📸: USGA/Dustin Satloff @FryStrakaGolf @Evan_Schiller

The world was introduced to Noah Kent two years ago when he finished runner-up at the U.S. Amateur. Since then? "I definitely had some very low moments after I transferred and some very deep questionable moments where I definitely could have thrown in the towel or kind of taken the easy way out." Now, he's finding his stride again and into the Round of 32 at Merion.
