DEI is not about hiring someone unqualified (unlike politics), it’s about ensuring that qualified job candidates, regardless of sex, race, age, disability, sexuality, etc have an equal shot given these groups are historically underrepresented when they *aren’t* considered.

HR sent an email reminding everyone to use their remaining vacation days before December.
A guy from our sales team named Kevin replied to the entire company.
He asked if he could donate 11 unused days to Rosa, a woman working in our shipping department.
HR replied that vacation days couldn't be transferred between employees.
Kevin asked whether the company would pay him for the unused days instead.
They said no.
Rosa had been spending nights at the hospital with her daughter and had almost no leave remaining.
Kevin sent one final reply.
“So you'll erase the days I've earned, but you won't let me give them to someone who actually needs them?”
By lunchtime, employees from six different departments had joined the email.

I've begged my elderly parents to move in with us. No downsize to a safer house. No. Move closer to us. No.
Now Dad's in the hospital, Mom needs a ride home and someone to stay overnight, and I have to work tomorrow and get my kids ready for school.
This was entirely preventable. I've offered every reasonable solution, and they've refused them all. Older generations, you cannot insist on doing everything your way and then expect your adult children to rearrange their lives to make it work…
