I'm hiring 👀🐙⚡
This is a rare opportunity to join the Data Visualisation team at @OctopusEnergy, the largest (and most exciting) energy supplier in Britain.
It's a tiny team with a big remit and an outsized impact. You'll be working directly alongside me to help shape how the public understands the energy transition.
You'll be turning complex energy data into clear, compelling stories; working closely with senior leadership, marketing, policy, press and product teams.
You'll be exposed to a diverse range of energy-related topics in areas like supply, renewables, policy, infrastructure and low carbon technology… to name just a few.
On the visualisation side we mostly live in React and Next.js, Mapbox and WebGL, with Blender for 3D and animation. But we reach for whatever the job needs, so you'll be picking up new things regularly.
Can you pull a compelling narrative out of raw data and pick the right way to tell it?
If so, please consider applying (link in thread below).

I'm thrilled to be a part of the renewable energy revolution, esp. as I get to do it using maps & data ⚡🌍
I start on Monday & I'll share more on my blog once settled in.

Epic lasagne review translated from Japanese
Replying to @patio11
I had to translate this.
(As always, I'm doing it free-hand and off-the-cuff. Translation is inherently a creative act; I'm trying to do justice to the authorial voice.)

Milk delivery 25 years ago was essentially a subscription service offering products with recyclable/reusable packaging, delivered by electric vehicles.
Part of me thinks that if a techie firm were to have proposed this same idea today people would think it was incredible.

Django's dark secret: you will never re-use your apps (and prematurely picking component boundaries causes pain as your project grows).

What's the best way for sharing secrets internally?
We have a company 1Password account, which is great, but doesn't offer one-off secret sharing with another user. Would rather not email/Slack sensitive strings.
What do you do?

This is weird: google.com is served with a HTTP header of "content-type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" but then in the HTML has <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type"> - I wonder why?
