Oscar Murillo | Frequencies
Later this month, Oscar Murillo will debut Frequencies at his upcoming David Zwirner exhibition, Unfinished Thinking: Paintings and Social Maps.
The project is the result of more than a decade of work: an archive of 21,319 images of drawings by children worldwide.
The more I’ve spoken with Oscar, the more I’ve come to understand that Frequencies embodies the thread that’s run through his work since childhood.
This thread explores how the project came into being, how it has evolved, and what happens next. We’ll use it as a repository for everything Frequencies, past and future.

leyla & @michaelspalter’s conversation on the occasion of the release of ordo (2017) by @CharlesCsuri’s estate is the most interesting discussion of computer art i've heard in a long time. maybe ever.

It’s extra special when you get to record in person, but even more so when you’re in an artist’s studio, surrounded by the smell of canvases and paint.
While this is Oscar’s studio, he says he mostly just stays there and doesn’t manage to make it back to his house much because, well, art is life and life is art kinda thing.
It’s a long chat, but so well worth listening to, as you really get a sense of Oscar’s personality as well as an understanding of his work.

Replying to @jamiegourlay
And earlier this year, Collective Osmosis at DAS MINSK and Museum Barberini brought Social Mapping to Germany (where there was also a Murillo-meets-Monet room).

8 years into Frequencies, he found himself stuck at home during the pandemic, and diving deep into the digital archive for the first time in preparation for his Artangel show.

Anyone who has been collecting digital art should 💯 read this interview by Peter Bauman with Caroline Csuri. It takes us back to where this ‘movement’ began.
It’s quite extraordinary to think about Csuri’s journey, from his humble beginnings in a Hungarian immigrant family to becoming the first in his family to attend college, a professor by the age of 30, and eventually one of the pioneers of computer art.
Thank you, @monkantony_tez and @lerandomart for your dedication and commitment to uncovering a chapter of art history that deserves to be better understood and recognised.

what a thrill to write about vera and then to pub an interview on chuck 👑👑
fascinating how they both created imaginary/analog computers before getting access to digital ones
they had a sixth sense for computation’s importance and doubled down repeatedly
"Caroline Csuri on Charles Csuri and Computation as Playground" by Peter Bauman @monkantony_tez
Caroline Csuri on her father, Charles Csuri + the computer he considered his “playground” and “magic black box”
