A long time ago, kings owned all the land, and serfs owned nothing. Today, content and data are becoming as valuable as land. And the lords of Silicon Valley don't want us owning our digital selves anymore than kings wanted serfs owning their land. I wrote an OpEd about it 👇

When I grew up people wanted to avoid war with Russia and Iran at almost any cost. Ain’t it fun how times change?

This may seem obvious but we have to try to stop seeing fellow Americans as enemies. Of course there are bad eggs but I mean seeing an entire party as an enemy, for example, is self-destructive.
I believe most people are fairly moderate, it’s just the algorithms amplify the extremes.
We can’t let the algorithms trick us into seeing each other through the very distorted lens of social media.
We need across the isle summer camps for adults or something. To learn to hang out a bit and humanize each other.
Or maybe magic mushroom retreats for moderates?
Imagine using your time to honor your mother, Yoko Ono — who has devoted her entire life to peace, and who has been unfairly and relentlessly mocked and hated for over 50 years. Imagine!

AI is going to change things faster and harder than our intuition can predict, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (@hitRECordJoe) writes in a guest opinion.

Generative AI cannot generate anything at all without massive troves of training data. Who produces that data? People do.
And those people deserve compensation.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor said the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday siding with a web designer opposed to same-sex marriage was “profoundly wrong.” In a scathing dissent, Sotomayor said the ruling will “mark gays and lesbians for second-class status.” nyti.ms/3NAH092
ALT A quote from Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in her dissent to the Supreme Court ruling backing a Colorado web designer who opposed same-sex marriage, reads: “Today is a sad day in American constitutional law and in the lives of LGBT people.”
Shocked & deeply sad.
Treat hired me to be his assistant after we met on the 2001 FOLLIES revival—
I was a *terrible* assist but Treat never had the heart to fire me—he met my immaturity w sincere kindness, generosity, humor, love & positivity.

When AI mathematically proves that homelessness, health care, housing, student loan and a host of other societal ills could be easily solved with the people at the very top paying a little more, that’s when they’ll unplug it.
I said it last year and I'll say it again: Ariana DeBose is a national treasure. #TonyAwards
Also, is the United Palace Theater even more beautiful than Radio City? I think yes? #TonyAwards
Love the shots of casts from other shows cheering on performers walking offstage after their performances. That's the Broadway community #TonyAwards
