Does not account for cost of damage to US bases, similar to previous Pentagon estimates for Iran war — a data point that would dramatically increase this number.
DoD officials have testified they cannot provide estimates for cost of damage to US bases because they haven’t determined if those bases will be repaired/rebuilt.
But it means the true dollar amount remains unknown (though it is absolutely more than what the Pentagon has provided to Hill)

Thiel on the Iran war: "I think we should not have done it"
NEWS: I obtained a recording of Peter Thiel's latest Nashville Antichrist lectures. In his third talk delivered on Oct. 12, he breaks with the Trump admin on the U.S. war with Iran. “I think we should not have done it,” he said. “There were a lot of mistakes that were made.”

US officials cited here think that an intense, brief (as in, a few days) air campaign will push Iran into making concessions on its nuclear program.
These predictions have been made before. They have proven incorrect. Iran is broadly signaling it is ready for an attack, that it expects one, and will retaliate aggressively.
Trump has yet to make a decision. nytimes.com/2026/10/21/us/po…

Many aircrews in Iran theater just got extended to April 2027. This will be over a year deployment.
The damage to retention, and families, will be massive. Especially in the Guard and Reserves.
This is not due to the war. It’s due to awful planning by Hegseth

Representatives from the UAE were at one of the meetings, per Israeli source.
The Pentagon declined to comment when asked about Hegseth's travel to Israel.
Hegseth’s unannounced visit to Israeli comes days before the country holds its elections.

Vance is confronted by the emotional husband of a soldier killed in Iran War and acts like he had no idea anyone ever died:
Q: It's a hard price to pay. There's a failure in the leadership. How will the leadership be held accountable?
Vance: If there were failures... This is the first time I've heard of this.
The Iran war has also imposed human costs, with 21 U.S. service members killed and hundreds injured since the conflict began in late February.
In the war’s early hours, six U.S. Army Reserve soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike on a site in Kuwait, including Master Sgt. Nicole Amor. Her husband, Joey Amor, asked Vance about reports that the facility in Kuwait was not adequately secured.
