Of course, people say, "this is because of China". Sure, but you live in a global world. If China drives world GDPpc up. you have to try to match it. If you fail you lose.
Like in the past too, when China could not keep up with the Europeans and they brought it to an almost colonial status.
In other words, one's economic failure cannot be blamed on China.
Flunk. They threatened Greenland & Denmark for months to obtain what the 1951 defence agreement already gave the US. Now they’ve repackaged the very old agreement as a “historic victory.” Cheap propaganda. They now have access they already had. Trump conquered the status quo.
This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people. Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer.
Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area.
This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland.

Jeffrey Williamson at the Southern Cone Economic History Summer School (2010) in Montevideo, Uruguay. Asado & drinks with students and Luis Bértola. Great memories! RIP Jeff 🪦
Jeff’s work was a source of inspiration for me and many students of Lat American Econ History. He was the one bringing intellectual energy and sense of humor at international conferences. I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed.

Sci-Hub is an evil website that pirated 85M+ research papers and made them freely available
And now they've added AI to their database to make Sci-Bot.
It answers your questions using latest, full-text articles.
But DO NOT use it. We should all try to make billion-dollar academic publishers richer.
I'm putting the link below so you know how to avoid it.

Ha-Joon Chang compares mainstream economics to Catholicism in the Middle Ages.
“Economics today resembles Catholic theology in medieval Europe: a rigid doctrine guarded by a modern priesthood who claim to possess the sole truth. Dissenters are shunned.”

The QJE should investigate this matter, and possibly retract the VV (2012) paper.
Let me be clear: Voth's "responses" here in X are designed to mislead.
What Joe released today had the errors corrected and, unlike Voth claims, the VV results do not survive

Following my recoding, Voigtländer and Voth's OLS and Poisson regressions lost significance at the 5% level that publication bias demands.
Only one remained significant at 5%, and it uses a dependent variable coded from private archives that I wasn't not able to check.

Trump murdered Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former president of Iran, who - whatever you think of him - was a civilian, not in the military, and so it was murder, plain and simple. As illegal and as murderous as Iran bombing and killing, say, George W Bush at his home in Dallas.

Greenland has a universal healthcare system provided by Denmark, offering free care including hospitals, GPs, and prescriptions. However, remote geography and staffing shortages pose challenges, often requiring patient transfers to Denmark for specialized treatment. Recent investments aim to address these issues.
