I think City go bust and here is why:
- They lose the appeal and sanctions are expulsion or a deduction that is functionally relegation.
- The EFL will not accept the existing company (or only on punitive terms).
- Damages claims + unpaid fines make the old co insolvent or not worth buying.
- Owners are barred from putting fresh money in (or barred altogether forcing a sale).
- Players and sponsors leave faster than a buyer can be found.
Then the old company is a litigation shell and a phoenix in a lower division looks cleaner. Watch it play out.

βI knew all the young lads were coming through. Iβd watched them in the FA Youth Cup, they were an outstanding team.
Iβd just came back from an injury, Sir Alex said to me βRobbo, I think you need to play in a Lancashire League gameβ, [with the βAβ team] to sharpen up. We were allowed two overage players in them days so, I said βYeah, boss, I feel as if I need a game.β
So, weβre playing Marine AFC away, like big thug scousers. And Iβm going βyeah, this is gonna be great. I can see me getting sent off because Iβm gonna boot them if they start on the kids.β
And I say this to Eric Harrison [youth team coach] just before the game, βEric, just try and calm me down, because if they start with the young kids you know me, Iβm gonna kick them back.β Eric said βno, you just see how the game goes.β
So we kick off, Scholesy is centre forward, within ten minutes he cements this six-foot-four centre half. Right over the top of him, centre-half is down on the floor, physioβs on, I ask Scholesy βYou okβ, βWhy wouldnβt I be, Robbo?β Ok, fair enough.
Weβre 2-0 up, they get a corner, Nev [Gary] is marking the near post, he goes ten yards away from the near post, and Iβm standing in the six yard box βNev, youβre going too farβ, βRobbo! If they take a short one I can get out there! If theyβre gonna knock it in, Iβll get back square on the post!β, βAye, ok, Nev. Thatβs ok.β
Weβre now 4-0, I break up the play in midfield, burst forward, and this lad brings me down right on the edge of the box. I fall on the ball, and as I get up, I hear this *squeaky voice* βRobbo, I take these.β I turn around - itβs Becks. And I go βYeah, fair enough, good on you.β Iβm only the Man Utd captain and heβs giving me orders. Anyway, he puts the ball down, bang, top corner, 5-0.
And I knew then they were always going to be top players. Not just because of their talent, but the mentality. When they can talk to the skipper like that, whoβs far older, theyβve just got that mentality of winners. So I havenβt been booked, havenβt been sent off, because I havenβt had to look after them.
