Those that built their homes well will be enjoying the benefits this period where the power supply is abysmal and the general temperature is high. Imagine you have a courtyard in your house with a big tree you can sit under? But you people have paved all your compounds with interlock and some even use tiles - materials that reflect the heat and give it back to you 🤦🏽‍♂️

Why was it stranded, I can’t understand how the FG would spend billions buying equipment & then the same FG (through customs) lock it down for 20yrs this whole story makes no sense! What is being celebrated about equipment that are probably now obsolete?! Are we cursed?
For nearly 20 years, over 300 containers of transmission equipment sat stranded at our ports. This equipment was bought to expand the network, relieve overloaded substations and bring more reliable electricity to Nigerians. Yesterday, the Nigeria Customs Service approved the release of the first 98. Our engineers will now verify the equipment, test it and deploy it where it is needed most. That means completing stalled projects, easing pressure on overloaded substations and strengthening the grid. This is a significant first step, and we are working to secure the release of the remaining 200+ containers without further delay. We are grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the release. We also thank the Comptroller-General and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Honourable Minister of Finance, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority, the terminal operators and the TCN team for their support. A stronger grid, one step at a time. 🇳🇬 #PowerUpdate #MinistryOfPower #RenewedHope #NigeriaGrid #ReliablePower

Imagine having a beautiful courtyard with trees, natural light and a comfortable outdoor sitting area within your home. Not every available square metre must become an enclosed room. Sometimes, the spaces we leave open matter just as much. Design sustainably🌿

We’re not saying that your new houses should look like it was built in the 80s/90s. We’re saying that those houses were built to maximize comfort and their core design elements should be retained i.e wide windows, verandahs, landscaping etc These are modern tropical designs:

Nigerians will sacrifice sustainable features just to achieve that clean, modern box appearance Now rain and the sun have an opportunity to deal with both the building and its users Architectural aesthetics should never completely override environmental performance DST 🌿

Nothing concern me sha. If you like, build sustainably or not. My own is that y'all should please plant trees and greenery in that compound. Even if the building isn't sustainable, greenery can still help cool the environment. Design sustainably. 🌿

Maslow's hierarchy of needs teaches us that people must have their basic physiological needs met before they can meaningfully concern themselves with higher level needs. How do you explain the importance of wildlife conservation to the average Nigerian who is hungry, struggling to survive and has little or no understanding of conservation?
Foreign Man Pays Men Attempting to Sell Sea Turtle Along Road Near Eko Hotel, Lagos, and Returns It to the Sea "Today, I witnessed something that genuinely broke my heart but also restored a little of my faith in humanity. While leaving Eko Hotel, Lagos State, I saw some men trying to sell a sea turtle in the middle of the road as though it were an ordinary item of trade. A foreign man stopped and tried everything possible to stop them. He shouted, pleaded and appealed to the people around him, including the uniformed police officers present, to understand that what they were doing was wrong. Sadly, it seemed his voice was the only one speaking up for a creature that couldn't speak for itself. However, he refused to give up. He eventually paid the men for the turtle, not to own it but to give it another chance at life. With the assistance of a police van, the turtle was taken back to the sea and released into its natural habitat." — A lady shares what she witnessed near Eko Hotel in Lagos State.

I stumbled on the account of a person who specializes in renovating older residential buildings in lagos. It breaks my heart every time I see him turning these traditional Nigerian homes from the 90s to “modern” white boxes. They now look completely soulless and sterile

More on this. I don’t like how you lot are hearing what I’m not saying. We can renovate houses without losing the essence of what makes them comfortable for daily living. These white box house designs were imported from colder regions. Meanwhile, We live in the tropics

White box houses could never be the same as this. Swasthi by R+A Architects in Perinthalmanna, Kerala, is a contemporary tropical home that takes the language of traditional Kerala architecture and makes it work for modern living. Sloping terracotta-tiled roofs, generous overhangs, natural materials, and shaded spaces sit on a narrow plot beside a temple. The design responds to the site, Vastu considerations, and the climate instead of ignoring them. The result is a house that feels rooted and comfortable at the same time. It shows that regional identity does not have to be left behind for a building to feel current. Project: Swasthi
