I dropped out of high school when I was 14 years old.
I got into a Ph.D. program today.
Dream big because that’s where it starts. And on that note…ahem…OMG IMMA BE DR. JESS.
Just a reminder that if you are applying to creative writing MFA programs this year, you should join the 500 people using my free (and ad-free) site that has information on over 200 programs. You can track due dates, documents, find stipend info, etc.

this video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.
I passed my qualifying (comprehensive) exams!
I’m one step closer to hanging a doctorate diploma next to my GED. 💅🏾
Sometimes I see an ad for a film or an interview with Tom Cruise and I think, “Did we forget that his ex-wife had to use a burner phone and set up an entire escape plan so she could to run with their daughter and safely get a divorce?”
Like…wtf are we doing? 🤨
GIRL. I’m about to pay this witch to bless my career.

Writers, writing teachers, students, etc: I created a spreadsheet of every creative writing MFA, MA, and PhD program. It includes their current deadline, genres taught, FUNDING/STIPEND INFO, incoming class size, etc. That's data for over 200 programs.

My map of Creative Writing MFA Programs has been updated with current deadlines. Its not perfect but maybe folks will find it useful. It lists 200 programs and can be filtered by genre and funding.

“Enrique woke to a scraping, pounding, and a sigh. Even with his eyes closed, he recognized the sound of the mortar and pestle.”

I can’t even take public transportation and feel good about it. Even the PSTA is bowing to Trump and “antiwokeness” bullshit.
@MFA_WUSTL your website says applications are due 12/1 and then the portal says 11/30. Do you know how many of my students are freaking out right now? 😅
Just a reminder I’m @jesilfa everywhere, including the cerulean stratosphere. 💙
I have COVID though so how about we see how it shakes out? (This is a disability studies class, btw. Lovely.)
ALT Email from a professor that says “sorry I just got off a plane from a conference. We can try Zoom or coming to class with a mask but let’s make sure you are back in person next week.”
