The 'boring-expansion' set of proposals that I made back in 2022, with the help of Google Fonts and industry colleagues, have finally become part of the new ISO Open Font Format 5th edition international font format standard. It _only_ took four years... The proposals include the `avar` version 2 table for more expressive variable font designspaces, variable-composites, as well as fonts with more than 65 thousand glyphs. PDF can be downloaded for free, albeit after a checkout process and watermarked to the individual. iso.org/standard/14496-22

TypeDuck v2 for Windows is officially live! We’ve completely revamped the core and included the aap2 lexical list. We are at 50k on iOS and I hope this version helps even more Canto users worldwide. It won't help my tenure case though... back to grant writing. @graphemecluster

This is the saddest era in human history. We have everything one could want — electricity, running water, heat and air conditioning, homes, roads, schools, parks. Yet the ruling class and the bougiecrats are engaged in a humanicide because they always want MOAR for themselves.

🚨🚨 FOLLOW-UP: HOLDEN THORP'S LEGITIMIZATION MACHINE EXPOSED While Ioannidis Faced Death Threats to His Family & Career Destruction for Questioning Lockdowns, Thorp Used Science Magazine to Champion Them Prof. John Ioannidis (@Stanford) in his own words: “Death threats were very commonplace.” “Also to you? Of course. I think both myself and every single member in my family, we were attacked in ways that I could never have imagined…” “The environment was so toxic that the vast majority of credentialed scientists who might have some expertise that would be relevant to epidemiology… Most of those self-silenced.” “If you are attacked in such a way… we would be completely annihilated. We would disappear from the map and our careers would end. Who knows? Maybe we'll be dead.” “The vast majority of credentialed scientists… moved out and they left epidemiology to people who were not epidemiologists.” 🎥 Watch Ioannidis’ own words in full — the toxicity he describes is exactly what Thorp helped normalize. ⚠️ This is the environment Thorp actively helped create and defend. While Ioannidis and other real epidemiologists were being threatened and destroyed, Thorp’s @ScienceMagazine editorials aggressively legitimized lockdowns as “essential science” (2022 “Thank you, Tony!” defending “masks and lockdowns” against “misinformation”; 2020 “Trump lied about science” attacking skeptics). Yet in February 2026 he now admits “anger over the pandemic lockdowns that many Americans now see as avoidable” fueled public distrust — without ever taking responsibility. 📌 Jay Bhattacharya, current NIH Director, said it best: “There is literally no way that the public will regain trust in science with Holden Thorp as the editor of Science. In his position, he embraced lockdowns and dangerous virological research and publicly denigrated scientists who opposed them.” 🔱 ScienceGuardians™ holds no preferences in any fields of science, including various aspects of epidemiology, but strongly believes that politicizing science can lead to severely dangerous consequences, including threats to public health. @realDonaldTrump @SecKennedy @NIHDirector_Jay @DrJBhattacharya @elonmusk @NIH @HHS_ORI @aaas
🚨 HOLDEN THORP'S LEGITIMIZATION CATASTROPHES EXPOSED: Amplified lockdowns in scientific discourse—now concedes they were “avoidable” in a striking reversal, amid a $14T U.S. pandemic economic toll (including closures and behavior changes; USC Schaeffer) and $2.14T lost during the first two months of mitigation measures (Mercatus). ⚠️ Thorp’s @ScienceMagazine editorials defended interventions such as lockdowns in the scientific discourse (e.g., the 2022 editorial “Thank you, Tony!”, defending “masks and lockdowns” against “misinformation”; and the separate 2020 editorial “Trump lied about science,” criticizing the downplaying of the pandemic as “devastating”), contributing to the pro-intervention narrative. Yet in February 2026, in “A tale of many twos,” he acknowledges that “anger over the pandemic lockdowns that many Americans now see as avoidable” fueled public distrust—an admission of hindsight amid the $14T U.S. economic toll of the pandemic (2020–2023), according to USC Schaeffer modeling of GDP shortfalls from closures and behavior changes. The first two months of pandemic mitigation measures alone cost $2.14T, according to Mercatus Center analysis. The broader pandemic toll has been estimated at roughly twice the scale of the Great Recession, contributing to the erosion of public trust. 🚨 A pattern emerges: Science magazine has legitimized perpetrators of the PubPeer “PubSmear” Network Mob through news coverage (e.g., 2018 and 2021 articles discussing Elisabeth M. Bik as an “image sleuth”) and through Derek Lowe’s multiple blog posts promoting Leonid Schneider’s reporting. These figures—whose activities have been exposed by the ScienceGuardians™ Legal and Investigative Team—include Schneider, self-implicated in harassment, defamation, academic falsification, and mocking s-e-x-u-a-l abuse survivors—and Bik, a fake 'science integrity consultant' who targets and smears researchers while actively censoring critiques of her own work on the compromised PubPeer platform. 🔗 Link to the evidentiary exposé in the comments. 👉 How much will this legitimization cost academia, science, and the world? 📌 Hold Thorp accountable for using the prestige of Science to legitimize contested actors and narratives. 🔱 ScienceGuardians™ holds no preferences in any fields of science, including various aspects of epidemiology, but strongly believes that politicizing science can lead to severely dangerous consequences, including threats to public health. 🔱 Follow @SciGuardians to be empowered and empower others. @realDonaldTrump @SecKennedy @NIHDirector_Jay @elonmusk @NIH @HHS_ORI @aaas

It's often easier to do nothing than to do something. This is the story of individuals who continue to explore the boundaries of what is permissible in Hong Kong, even as the city's once vibrant civil society has come under immense strain. W/ @frostyhk: bloomberg.com/news/features/…

I'm gonna try Astro Starlight with LiveVue to write my next course. Easy markdoc-based writing, with client-side and server-side real-time interactivity both available.
🎉 LiveVue 1.0 is here! 🎉 After 19 months of development, Vue.js + Phoenix LiveView integration is finally stable. Server state flows down as props. Client events flow up through WebSocket. Best of both worlds. 🧵👇

Our global Cantonese 粵文 writing initiative for 5-18 year olds got submissions from nine countries; our three judges selected 18 pieces. These were translated into English, Jyutping annotated, narrated by professional voice actors, and typeset into a very nice booklet. 🧵/5

Transcribing Chinese to Cantonese Braille was labor-intensive with proof-reading passes inside DOS programs, available to only one NGO. I built a Cantonese Font Braille variant that made this into a turn-key process. 🧵1/2

I have just released 50,000 characters of new Jyutping-annotated Cantonese works, parallel with English / standard written Chinese translations, in multiple formats. Our signature tone-marks and placement removes confusion with tones. 🧵1 / 5

"Ladder" variants removes selected Jyutping from common / easy characters. This gives a ladder to climb from 3, 10, 32, to 100 characters; at 400 character reduction, the reader can read > 80% of the text independently. 🧵4 / 5
