Through the generosity of my church, I'm doing a PhD into one of the brightest minds and warmest hearts of the 1600s, Stephen Charnock. Inspired by missionary newsletters, each month I'm taking one thing I've learnt and applying it to life. Fancy joining me? Link in my bio.

As Christians we can be certain about our heavenly hope. But the flip side to this is what the Bible teaches about hell. This is what one 17th century divine taught his people about it. jmorrison.substack.com/p/if-…

'I lie down with a world of comfort as if I were to lie down in my bed . . . where I shall rest ... in the embrace of the Lord Jesus.' Those were Christopher Love's last words on the scaffold in 1651. What enable him to have such faith? jmorrison.substack.com/p/the…

Today I had the pleasure of introducing a room of guys to Christopher Love (1618-1651) on heaven and hell at the @southwestgospel men's convention. All the more poignant, given his last words before his execution: 'I shall go from a block to the bosom of my saviour'.

It was a privilege to lead a study day for pastors in South West England last week on @DrRobertLetham's helpful volume on the Trinity. And it was even better to hear how they were planning to wear their trinitarianism more heavily in their ministries as a result! @prpbooks

It was so fun serving with these @crosslands friends at our half term Bible intensive for teens in Bristol. Please give thanks for great teaching and conversations with 25 young people about what it means to be human!

This is one of my highlights of the year! Spending time with 25 teenagers from across Bristol for two days of Bible teaching and relationship building. This year we're digging deep into what it means to be human. Please pray for us! @GYDisciples

The irony about Christmas is that, even with the extra services and outreach events, we can forget to worship Jesus ourselves. Here is some help from @StephenCharnock for not forgetting Christ this Christmas. jmorrison.substack.com/p/is-…

Christians often have a good idea of the difference Christ's resurrection makes to their future. But what about their life now? This is what @StephenCharnock had to say. jmorrison.substack.com/p/rig…

As I spend time supporting the believers in my church, probably the most common issue come across is people doubting whether they really are justified in Christ. Here's some help from @StephenCharnock with that. jmorrison.substack.com/p/our…

We can often think that our circumstances are more powerful than God is. This was @StephenCharnock 's antidote to the fears of life. jmorrison.substack.com/p/hot…

Today I enjoyed leading with my @crosslands tutee Sam Pibworth a discussion about ongoing theological study and pastoral ministry for fellow @theFIEC pastors in Bristol. An important aspect of ministry which often gets overtaken by tyranny of the urgent.

Carl Trueman has described nonconformity in the late 17th century as the closest time in church history to what evangelicals are experiencing today. Here's what one pastor taught into that situation. @StephenCharnock jmorrison.substack.com/p/whi…

Theology is best studied in community. So after a great day with @crosslands students reading and discussing the Old Testament, we got together with @NeilTodman1 's group (plus the family) for food together. Nourishment for the soul; nourishment for the body.
