ALT Two-page spread showing the cover of a book, right, and its back cover, left, with a typical sales blurb. The book is "A Year of Weekends" which appears in white text at the top of the cover, in a pale blue sky from which descend business-suited skeletons holding black umbrellas. Each clutches a dark blue briefcase that matches their suit. They hover over a cemetery, with pine trees in the distance and old stone monuments closer up. In the foreground, a road stretches off to the right, toward the pastel clouds of a post-sunset sky. In the road is a blonde acoustic guitar with a snapped E string. In the grass to the left, the subtitle of the book appears: Posters from the sliced crosswise always August multiverse of the Pirate Cove Music Fest. Bottom right, below the guitar, is the author's name: John G. McDaid.

It is an abstract mixed-media piece, with scraps of paper, white gouache, and half-visible image, atop which the title is written in rough black craayon. Image by Brooklyn artist Cindy Zaglin. ALT Album cover for the band Friend of the Show, the album title is Double Irish With a Dutch Sandwich. It pictures the band, four youg men in jackets and slacks, standing around a puddle, shot up from ground level with an extreme wide-angle lens, so the surrounding buildings curve inward at the top of the frame, creating an uncanny effect out of this dim, cloudy day.

ALT A riddle, wrapped in an enigma, and rolled in streaky bacon. That's what confronts Hecuba in "The Scrying of Blot 313," whose garish cover illustrates the insouciant gormlessness of the Sixties, all paisley and pensive looks and naive faith in an army of lovers. Well, we all know how that turned out. Oh, yeah, secret society, Jacobean revenge drama, song lyrics, wordplay, obsessional detail. It's all there.
