Maurice Clarett says learning to read in prison changed his life
“I couldn't read real well, comprehend, do anything prior to playing football. I'm never going to be able to play football again. I'm thinking, ‘I got seven and a half years. I'm 22. I'll be 30.’ So I was like, ‘Man, I'm going to go ahead and just start to educate myself.’”
“When dudes would send me $40, $50, $60, I would take this stuff and I was like, ‘Man, I'm going to just start learning how to read, become interested in something, and just become good.’”
“The next thing I know, the same passion that I have for football and film study… I was like, ‘I can read, and I like reading, and I enjoy reading, and I enjoy comprehending.’ I enjoy having a better vocabulary or communicating to different people. That's what really happened.”
“Reading changed my life like nothing else. Reading and self-education was what really changed. That just kind of set me on a different path. What I thought was possible, or who I see myself as…”

If you met a truly humble person, you wouldn't think him/her humble, but only that they were happy and incredibly interested in you.

John Adams, writing to Abigail, about the Continental Congress' vote in favor of independence on July 2, 1776:
"The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. -- I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. -- Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not."

Miami of Ohio may be the worst team to ever be 31-0 at anything but if they lose their conference tournament they still better be in the NCAA draw. The 11th best team in the SEC can fuck all the way off.

Watching Joe Flacco carve up the Steelers is hilarious. Expected at this point. What even are the Cleveland Browns

As long as the Browns stay the course, I think it’s totally fair to question whether they’ll actually care about the on-field product until it’s time to sell PSLs to the new stadium.

Most of me is in awe of Tarik Skubal and just what a genuinely great guy he seems to be on top of being perhaps the best pitcher in the sport.
The rest of me is mad that now I can’t mock him for collapsing against us.

There is seriously no way Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, and Cade Smith are all fixed at once the literal second Corey Kluber pops back into the Cleveland dugout and it’s just a coincidence.
