Good time to think about how many of society's *other* trusted experts are just posers who've learned to act confident without contributing value.
BBC: Hablaremos con nuestro experto en seguridad de BBC respecto a la vulnerabilidad de PHP. El experto en seguridad: No sabía que PHP existía hasta ayer en la mañana.

Tech bros really are the villains from Middle Earth. “Many of those trees were my friends, creatures I had known from nut and acorn; many had voices of their own that are lost for ever now.” - Treebeard (The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien) theguardian.com/environment/…

If all the govs shutting down servers for a PHP update, all the hosters & enterprises terrified by the vuln, gave $100k, or just $50k a year to the PHP Foundation, things could look very differently. Go, make your employer sponsor *today* thephp.foundation/sponsor/ #php #phpc @ThePHPF

Black women and girls in Britain are too often described rather than heard. The #DefinitionRedefined National Survey of Black Women & Girls in Britain, led by Soul Purpose 360, is changing that. Their survey is open until January 2027! soulpurpose360.co.uk/definit…

The anthropormophising of AI, the idea it has consciousness and agency, and can go 'rogue' is an attempt by tech companies to limit their liability, optimise user engagement and maximise stock value I said in the debate on the JCHR report on AI and Human rights, led by @alexsobel

It's simple: ban them. Ban them all. Don't tell me we can't. We have banned leaded gasoline, we have banned asbetos, we have banned CFCs. They were ubiquitous, a danger to humankind and we have banned them.
“We should regulate AI” is such a meaningless statement. How? Say what you actually want. There’s no magic regulation fairy that makes AI safe.

Didn’t realize that a lot of people were using ChatGPT like a best friend to talk to. No wonder y’all think it’s alive. Clippy was really ahead of its time.

This hacker news thread is absolutely heart-breaking. Whoever thinks “humans will find a way” ought I read it.

We should rejoin without telling anyone. The uneducated Brexit mob won’t realise & the rest of us can just get back to enjoying the benefits.
We should just rejoin the EU without a referendum. No one asked me if I wanted a referendum in 2016. Why should we ask for permission now?

The fact that that the people amassing power with AI clearly enjoy being cruel and take pleasure in the disruption of the lives of anyone they see as beneath them is a far greater concern than the actual human-killing potential of AI.
I am sympathetic to the mathematicians, who had a really great publicly funded hobby which is now less fun. But at some point we should talk about why they had a publicly funded hobby

Executives at OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies are reportedly preparing for a public and political backlash after a catastrophic AI event, possibly as early as 2027 (via Axios). Axios reports that many industry insiders expect a major incident within the next 6–12 months, most likely a cyberattack disrupting banking, internet access, power or water. OpenAI confirms it runs preparedness exercises, but says: "These scenarios are not treated as inevitable, but are meant to help us prepare for a variety of circumstances." Anthropic declined to comment.

J’ai parlé à tellement de non français et le problème avec les autres nations c’est qu’ils ont une vision très apathique c’est souvent des grands «rien ne va changer » ben justement si rien ne change c’est parce que vous ne faites rien et vous subissez juste
I envy the French revolutionary spirit that seems to be very low or almost nonexistent in other nations.

“I don't understand why they're telling us not to revolt when in the curriculum we only have people who revolt, Rimbaud, La Boétie…” Do you see why they’re committed to scraping funding for subjects such as history??
"Je ne comprends pas pourquoi ils nous disent de ne pas nous révolter alors qu'au programme on a que des gens qui se révoltent, Rimbaud, La Boétie… " Les lycéens sont une nouvelle fois mobilisés ce 8 octobre. ➡️ l.humanite.fr/znN
