Kudos to @joeposner for using his (many!) talents to create this video + game re: AI's impacts on early career jobs and what to do about it.
80% of Americans fear mass AI Job disruption – and government, ai companies, AND the public have high hopes job training can help. There’s decades of failures; we flew to Atlanta, data center construction capital of the USA, to profile the kind of job training that DOES work:

Sector-Based Job Training. They have randomized control trial evidence they are amazing. And of course, there's a catch. Our full episode is here: youtube.com/watch?v=FkDk_CLp…

And given the story is about AI's increasingly scary capabilities, I've been trying them. So this (deeply researched & field reported) story also comes with a little NES-style video game too, which we also built graphics for the video inside: fireswork.co/career-ladder/

It really bums me out that the future of journalism always seems to revolve around blowhards

Just great news all around.
My new show with @CaseyNewton is called Machine Gods, and we’re partnering with NPR! It’s a twice-a-week, video-first podcast about AI, and it will be available next month on YouTube and other podcast apps (and on radio soon!) It’s a really critical time for public engagement with AI, and we’re thrilled to bring our AI coverage (and jokes!) to NPR’s massive audience, while building an independent media company in San Francisco. We’re also thrilled that @RachelCohnnn, our incredible Hard Fork producer, is coming with us to make the new show. More to say soon! npr.org/2026/09/16/g-s1-1434…

How do you stop gun violence before it happens? We actually do know how to do that. I started filming an effort by the City of Orlando with exceptional results – Crime is dropping nationally, but Orlando is right at the head of the pack. Then something shocking happened…

24k viewers so far for "how to use AI to make shitty vox video ripoffs" vs 2k viewers so far for an original, field-reported, high-quality original doc made by a vox video co-founder about humans fighting poverty.

if you define the 2015 "pivot to video" era by the worst actors, it was a dumb time. but i refuse to see only that, because @voxdotcom was an incredible counter-example that a focus on video could really well too. i'm so insanely proud of my many former colleagues.

Will they find a way to be a modern record label, providing a valuable process and imprint on well-made work and sharing the spoils? Or will they demand total ownership like Motown?
