Copper has just traded at a new all-time high of $14,744 per tonne on the LME... the second consecutive session of breaking its own record. In the US, the December COMEX contract is trading above $6.82/lb (equivalent to $15,035.53 per tonne). We are approaching a $7.00/lb copper price at an alarmingly fast rate.
Supply is getting harder to pull out of the ground. The lack of concentrate feed from our mines is directly impacting the refined market.
This week, spot treatment and refining charges (TC/RCs), which are what miners pay smelters and refiners to process their copper concentrates, fell to NEGATIVE $270/dmt & 27¢/lb.... Miners are being paid $270 for every dry metric tonne of concentrate they sell to be smelted... rather than the other way around. This is unprecedented... the smelters are starving!

Inventories are vanishing, mines are aging, grades are declining, and new supply takes decades to find, permit, develop, finance and then build.
