Something felt off... Because he wasn't alone The beverage cart girl was there-the one I'd seen a few times before, always smiling a little too much and acting overly friendly.
They were standing way too close.
And then, he leaned in and kissed her. I froze. My heart dropped.
All the planning, the lessons, everything I'd put into that surprise-it didn't matter anymore. What hurt even more was seeing a few of his buddies nearby, and none of them looked surprised. They didn't react at all.
Like this had been going on for a while, and I was the last to find out. I pulled out my phone and took a picture.
My hands were shaking, but I managed to get it.
I turned around, walked straight back to my car, and drove home. I didn't cry. I didn't say anything. I just needed to get out of there. That night, I acted like nothing happened.
I gave him his gift— a box of golf balls.
