Autocrats imprison people to silence and isolate them. Last night at the Lincoln Memorial, former political prisoners and families led the answer: solidarity across borders. The October 30 Coalition helped bring them together. They are leading the movement. #FreedomStartsWithAName
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, we joined former political prisoners, their families, friends, and advocates to mark the International Day of Political Prisoners. Together with the October 30 Coalition, we spoke the names of those still behind bars for exercising their fundamental freedoms. With every name, they gave voice to those whom brutal regimes have sought to silence and amplified their calls for freedom. No one imprisoned for defending freedom should be forgotten. No family should have to stand alone. As America’s foundation for freedom, @NEDemocracy will continue supporting detainees and their families while demanding the release of all those unjustly detained. #FreedomStartsWithAName.

#Cuba On this International Day of Political Prisoners, Democratic Spaces reaffirms its unwavering commitment to working toward a world free of political prisoners. Today, we pay tribute to those arbitrarily imprisoned in Cuba and around the world for their words, ideas, beliefs, and the peaceful exercise of their fundamental human rights. October 30 is a day to honor the dignity, courage, and humanity of those who have been deprived of their freedom but whose convictions remain unbroken. Political prisoners are the moral conscience of their nations. They represent some of the most courageous and principled members of their societies, condemned to languish behind bars while their persecutors, responsible for grave human rights violations, cling to power. They embody the moral courage and integrity ... #Canada #HumanRights #InternationalDayOfPoliticalPrisoners #PresosPoliticosDeCuba

Freedom House stands in solidarity with the Iranian people and all those unjustly imprisoned for exercising their fundamental rights. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran. #FreeThemAll #FreedomStartsWithAName
Today, Iranians inside and outside the country are joining a coordinated online campaign for political prisoners, launched by opposition groups that signed the “Oslo Human Rights Principles” together with Iran Human Rights. Political activists, civil society members and citizens are taking part with one clear message: we stand together in defence of everyone’s human rights, regardless of political views, ethnicity or beliefs. #PoliticalPrisoners #زندانی_سیاسی_آزاد_باید_گردد #نه_به‌_اعدام

Freedom House is proud to be part of the October 30 Coalition and stand in solidarity with the more than one million political prisoners around the world and their families. We will continue to raise our voices for their freedom. #FreeThemAll #FreedomStartsWithAName
There are more than 1 million political prisoners around the world, behind bars for daring to speak, worship, assemble, and express themselves freely. Today, @NEDemocracy honored leaders who have worked tirelessly to free them. Their efforts remind us that standing with those who choose freedom is a proud American tradition.

Tonight was special. We gathered at the Lincoln Memorial to mark the International Day of Political Prisoners, where we read the names of #politicalprisoners from around the world, including Ahmedreza Djalali and @AliKarimli, among many others wrongfully imprisoned for standing up and speaking out for freedom, democracy, justice, peace, and human rights. United with a powerful coaltion of advocates and, most importantly, family members, we paid tribute to all those still behind bars who could not be with us in person, recognized the brave defenders keeping hope alive, and called on the international community to take action. #FreedomStartsWithAName

Woah. Cuban diplomat attacks a Norwegian girl, insults her for speaking Norwegian in Oslo while hurling a homophobic slur, and the Norwegian government backs Havana's bogus resolution that a majority of European countries rejected?
