#topoli New from me on @Spacing: a closing take on a dreary election, in which @MayorOliviaChow and her team utterly failed to make Doug Ford, and his repeated assault on municipal authority, into *the* ballot question.

Replying to @JohnLorinc
But talking to separatists while there is referendum on is……what? Scary shit because who knows what they are capable of.
This is about way more than us. DJT & Co. are preparing the ground for claiming the mid-terms weren't fair. #cdnpoli

#cdnpoli The glaring take-away from the response of the Alberta separatists to their loss y'day is that, for all their bloviating about direct democracy, they do not accept the outcome of the democratic vote they demanded. What does that say?

Q: How do you explain such a strong rejection of the independence movement?
Jeffrey Rath: I wouldn't go that far. We're a grassroots movement and we were up against the entire globalist machine.

Very grateful to @reviewcanada and @JohnLorinc in particular for this thoughtful review of my latest book. If you are interested, it's available online here: reviewcanada.ca/magazine/202…

OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year.
Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.

Chrystia Freeland: "Your government is siding with Vladimir Putin, who is a bloodthirsty dictator and war criminal. This is not a time for us to be divided. And it's certainly not a time for America to be on the side of the bad guys, which I'm sorry to say, you are right now."
I am voting for Olivia Chow for Mayor of Toronto. Her commitment to a city that works for everyone has been clear and deserves support. She is wise and caring. She pushes forward with courage and compassion and has the integrity and consistency we need at this moment.

#cdnpoli Alberta's version of Where's Waldo: Anyone seen or heard from Stephen Harper lately -- the last Conservative PM who represented a Calgary riding for years. You'd think he'd have a thing or two to say about the referendum...

Listen to the crowd pop when he says, “reduce our dependence on the United States”

These people are pushing back in the way that I would like to have seen the mayor and council respond to @fordnation's outrageous incursion on municipal jurisdiction (which is not, btw, just a figment of the founders' imaginations...)

I am wondering why all we are getting are sternly worded statements from @oliviachow.
Is she working on some deal to save the rest of the lanes and just willing to sacrifice these ones? Or does she just have no fight in her for safer infrastructure?

This is a vivid example of why the paint-bollard-concrete-curb approach so beloved of the Transportation Division is such a hedge.

The politicians “hurtling us back toward the Stone Age” need to get out more.
In Paris, bikes account for 11.2% of trips within the city; cars, just 4.3%. In London, cycling is up 43% since 2019.
It's possible to transform mobility in a city in just one decade. And it is a proven way to unclog roads.
But alas, for now we take two steps back.
