Tom and Jerry, from (very) rough demo to finished track. All we need as songwriters is that one flash of intrigue. Something to give a glimpse into a world that we’re compelled to build out. I live for that build-out. This one was a challenge, like many are, but for new reasons. And that’s what it’s all about. (Thank you @blakeslatkin) When I was younger, I liked making the sophisticated feel simple, and something really struck me about making something that felt simple hide its sophistication. It’s a series of moments, seemingly out of order, hardly ever repeating, but ain’t that life. :) Maybe I’ll do a track-by-track walkthrough of the song? Hey thanks for listening and still giving me a place in your heart… It ain’t lost on me. ♥️

“Tom and Jerry” was the name I used when saving my first voice memo with this song idea. “And if you ever come through, which I doubt you’ll do, I’ll run away with you.” From that moment on, the adventure began in bringing that feeling to life. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating every time - I get to work with a group of incredibly talented and deeply dedicated artists who will stop at nothing until the sound comes into focus and becomes a picture. I can’t wait to tell you more about it, but first, it’s important that you know who contributed to this track. The song comes out this Friday, but you can hear it throughout the day tomorrow exclusively on @SIRIUSXM @lifewithjm .

I’ll run away with you… October 23

What a whirlwind the last two weeks have been. I got to play with @DerekAndSusan and @treyanastasio at @EricClapton 's @Crossroads2013 . I inducted my friend Paul Reed Smith of @prsguitars into @guitarcenter 's RockWalk. I celebrated @TheRealBuddyGuy 's 90th birthday with my extended musical family at @RadioCity . I announced @SphereVegas shows. I played a special one-off solo show in my home state of CT at @MoheganSun . I jammed with Dave Grohl for his @hopethemission charity event at Chaplin Recording Studio . And in one of the more thrilling opportunities I’ve ever been given, I backed up the legendary @Officialannielx along with my dear sweet friend Wendy Melvoin @WIGMusicRecords on “Sweet Dreams,” which I think is apropos given the wild ride I’ve just been on. I’m a lucky dude. More fun soon…

Thank you @SphereVegas for one more weekend in June. Hoping those left in line for tickets last week can get them for these shows. Johnmayer.com
