Also I’m pretty sure the category “United States Local Government” is the least popular book category out there, but I’ll still gladly take that #1 New Release ranking. #utpol

This week's storms continue to chip away at Utah's drought.
Some parts of the state are now even out of moderate drought, which hasn't happened anywhere in Utah since March 31 — and soil moisture levels are now at a record for fall #utwx:

We are closely monitoring the flash flooding in Hurricane. Our hearts are with the families whose homes and livelihoods have been impacted.
Please follow all evacuation orders and local emergency guidance. We’re grateful to the first responders working to keep Utahns safe.
🚨 BREAKING: MAJOR FLASH FLOODING IN HURRICANE, UTAH
A dangerous flood wave surged through Hurricane today, forcing evacuations along Gould Wash as fast-moving water threatened homes and RVs.
Officials ordered residents near Gould Wash and the WillowWind RV Park to evacuate immediately as flash flooding moved downstream through the city. Power was also shut off to several townhome communities and the RV park.
More than 100 homes and RVs have reportedly been damaged, and an emergency has been declared in Hurricane.

Despite endless warnings of impending catastrophe, humanity produces more food than ever.
And far fewer children are dying from hunger.
This doesn't mean there are no problems. But it shows how innovation, economic growth, and human ingenuity can make the world dramatically better.

🌊 THE GREAT SALT LAKE IS RESPONDING TO THE RAIN!
One of the biggest winners from Utah’s historic storm cycle? The Great Salt Lake.
📈 Here’s what changed:
Lake level: Up approximately 0.6 feet — that’s more than 7 inches!
Lake volume: Increased from 29.1% to 30.5% of capacity.
Volume gain: That’s a 1.4 percentage-point increase in the lake’s total volume.
That’s a meaningful response to a major storm system that delivered widespread, much-needed precipitation across Utah. Rainfall, mountain runoff and streamflow all play a role in moving water into the lake.
The science is pretty remarkable. When you add widespread precipitation across the Great Basin, the benefits extend well beyond wet roads and muddy trails. Some of that water eventually makes its way into our terminal lake.
One important reality check: The Great Salt Lake remains in serious trouble, and one storm cycle won’t solve years of water deficits. But every meaningful contribution matters.
We’ll need to keep the water coming through the rest of fall, winter and spring to make a lasting difference.

9 undefeated teams remain.
3 are in the Big12.
2 are in the state of Utah.
Let’s just enjoy that BYU and Utah are extremely good and in elite company.

Models have only increased their forecasted precipitation amounts. The NBM has a max in the high Wasatch of over 6 INCHES of water!!! Our OpenSnow model is also similarly optimistic, with 5.9" total by Thursday of next week. A wild October storm!

Utah just ranked No. 1 in the nation for the lowest student loan debt burden, leads the nation in concurrent enrollment for high school students, and offers some of the best tuition value in the country. That's the result of a shared effort. From the Legislature investing in higher education and pushing for accountability and value, to the Utah Board of Higher Education, university presidents, campus leaders, faculty, and students working together to keep costs manageable and outcomes strong.
A big thank you to the Board of Higher Ed and university leaders for coming together to make this a reality. It's incredible to see the changes that have been made in just a few years.
There's still more work to do. Utah families are feeling the cost of living rise. We're going to continue working to make higher education attainable, keep life affordable, and make sure Utahns have the opportunity to build a future here in Utah.

Utah ranks No. 1 in the nation for the lowest student loan debt burden, according to WalletHub.
For our students to succeed, higher education needs to be affordable, accessible, and relevant.
That means keeping costs low, helping students graduate on time, and investing in high-demand programs that lead to strong careers.
