ALT A poem called 'Marvellous, for Raymond Briggs': How many lives did your life touch? Not just the gorgeously slimy bogeyman and that grumpy Father Christmas And the snowman who flew through so many childhoods Your beautiful books are a benediction But the students, like me, who you taught for all those years When fame and fortune could easily have lured you away. It was because of you that the publisher came to college And, to impress you, gave me my first commission. And it was to you I came when I sold my first story. A fluke, a lucky accident, my attempt to be like you, To ask, 'What do I do now?' But it was our weekly tutorials I have cherished my whole life When, in the studio of Grand Parade, You would turn the pages of my sketchbook of half formed thoughts And say 'Marvellous... marvellous... marvellous.' Plus an illustration from behind of Raymond Briggs and Chris Riddell in a studio drawing together.
