In #FiftyTo50 today. Don’t look to blame people for errors, instead evaluate the process or system that led to the decision.

No AI has not replaced the speechwriter. The core skill of observation and listening remains the most profound trait that we can all learn from. How do you know when you are not truly listening and what can you do? #Fiftyto50

As I approach 50, here is the first 2 min video dispensing something I’ve learned in that time. Like all advice it may be worthless or it may spark your own thoughts. We kick off with whether it’s possible to treat triumph and disaster just the same #FiftyTo50

I like this analysis. Who knew?
The face you make on your first Guinness is involuntary. The stuff is roughly 7x more bitter than Bud Light, and bitterness happens to be the one taste humans evolved specifically to spit out. Here's what's going on. Guinness gets its color from barley roasted at around 230°C, which is coffee territory. To an untrained tongue it basically tastes like someone dumped espresso in your beer. Then the nitrogen makes it worse. Guinness pours with a 75/25 nitrogen-to-CO2 mix, and nitrogen barely dissolves in liquid. Those tiny creamy bubbles everyone loves? That's the nitrogen. Problem is, nitrogen also kills the fizzy bite that takes the edge off bitterness in a regular beer, so all that roast hits your tongue with nothing in the way. Meanwhile your tongue carries 25 different types of bitter receptors, and their only job is detecting toxins. Light up enough of them at once and your body runs the rejection script whether you want it to or not. Pursed lips, little recoil, the exact face in this video. A psychologist named Paul Rozin coined a term for what happens after that first sip. Benign masochism. Humans are the only species that trains itself to enjoy things the body flags as dangerous, which is the whole story of chili, coffee, and stout. Takes around 8 to 10 tries before your brain connects the bitterness to the buzz and flips the signal from "spit this out" to "order another." So every Guinness drinker alive has made that face at some point, we just weren't on camera when it happened.

Africa has enormous power and sway as the second biggest voting bloc in FIFA, and as has continuously been proven, whoever is or wants to be president of the governing body has to be a ‘friend’ to the continent, enhancing development through funds, projects and opportunity. It is not a goodwill gesture - FIFA presidents NEED Africa. It is their DUTY not a favour to grow the game. The continent doesn’t need to sell its soul, blindly ‘stay loyal,’ silent, or bend and twist to appease whoever is in charge of FIFA. CAF can set the agenda and stand for the right thing, as it did at the onset against apartheid. It reshaped football for the better and it still can. Why does it continue to feel it needs to be subservient, to fall in line and be used? To close its eyes and ears? I am reminded of, when the bribery investigations engulfed FIFA, the sign that read: “Sepp Blatter. The only man that attends to Africa’s problems.” And how the former head of the Zambian FA likened receiving all the perks from him in exchange for votes regardless of whether good or not to “taking houses from Pablo Escobar using drug money.” Now it happily goes along with Gianni Infantino, the “loyal friend” who did nothing when Omar Artan, the reigning African Referee of the Year was robbed of his World Cup dream, and fans from the continent couldn’t travel due to travel bans or the prohibitive visa bond of $15,000, which was dropped too late and even saw heroic Vozinha’s mother denied the chance to see his historic debut, who made grossly unfulfilled promises about the African Super League, pushed for the change in frequency of AFCON and got his way, ensured it was moved in 2025 to cater for the Club World Cup… When coaches, players and journalists accused CAF of ceding its best interests to make FIFA happy, Patrice Motsepe said “we have got to move on from this inferiority complex.” It’s not those who were fighting on behalf of Africa that have the inferiority complex, it is those who don’t understand the scale of its power and great responsibility. Infantino needs the continent way more than it needs him. Africa can and has to be better than him.

We can map our lives in World Cups. Everyone will have a story of why and how you got hooked. It is emotional, it is identity, and it is belonging to something bigger. Which is why we have to fight for it. Fight against it being abused, altered, and turned into a branding exercise and money-spinning scheme. It’s the World Cup, not ‘The FIFA’. It’s commercial space not hydration breaks for player welfare. It’s not “equal conditions for every team.” Ask Iran. bymelissareddy.substack.com/…

Happy Birthday @fiannafailparty . Your people have been my greatest inspiration, toughest enemies, best friends, terrible disappointments. But no matter what anyone says in last century our lives have improved and you are at heart of that. I’ll never hide it’s my blood.
A century of shaping Ireland 🇮🇪☘️ In 1926, our member party @fiannafailparty was founded with a vision for a modern, independent Ireland in the aftermath of the Irish Civil War. One century later, it remains a cornerstone of Irish democracy and the most electorally successful party in the history of the State. We are proud to stand with our Irish friends as they celebrate this incredible milestone, alongside Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD as he leads the party into its next chapter. Here’s to 100 years of liberal leadership and democratic progress! 🙌

While we at Dublin By Pub fully support the right of Culchies to protest, it's evident now that it's gone too far. We're calling on all mullahs, bogtrotters and mucksavages to lay down their arms and allow the flow of kegs once again.
