New details have been revealed about an alleged Iranian-linked plot to bomb Jewish targets in Manchester: prosecutors say the suspects were sent instructions for making a homemade explosive device by a contact believed to be based in Iran. Iranian nationals Rahman Salehi, 34, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, are charged with preparing acts of terrorism. Both intend to plead not guilty. The Old Bailey heard that police allegedly observed the men photographing and filming Jewish sites in Manchester on the eve of Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day. Prosecutors say this was reconnaissance in preparation for a terrorist attack on Manchester’s Jewish community. The alleged targets included the Manchester Jewish Museum and Heaton Park synagogue — where two Jewish worshippers were killed in a separate attack almost a year earlier. Prosecutors allege that the pair were communicating with a third person believed to be in Iran, who sent them a document containing instructions for assembling an improvised explosive device from readily available materials. The two men are due to stand trial in Manchester on 15 June next year.

Hamas has explicitly threatened to carry out another October 7-style attack — not only inside Israel, but in Judea and Samaria and abroad. According to Ynet, senior Hamas officials delivered the warning through UN humanitarian coordinator Dr Ramiz Alakbarov, asking him to convey it directly to Israel. Israeli officials reportedly described the message as extraordinary and unprecedented in its bluntness. A document detailing the threat was urgently passed to Israel’s political and security leadership. Hamas said Israeli military operations in Gaza, changes to the “Yellow Line” marking Israeli military positions, and the Palestinian Authority’s cancellation of elections were causing it to lose control on the ground — and warned it could strike “wherever the opportunity arises”. The threat comes as Hamas faces growing military and financial pressure. Israel has intensified targeted operations against senior Hamas figures and members of its elite Nukhba force. Meanwhile, Hamas reportedly needs around 90 million shekels — approximately $29 million — every month simply to pay its personnel. Israeli security estimates put Hamas’s workforce in Gaza at around 30,000 people, from administrative staff and lower-level operatives to members of its military wing, receiving roughly 3,000 shekels each per month. Three years after October 7, Hamas is not hiding its intentions. It is openly threatening to do it again — and potentially far beyond Gaza.

An east London 18 year old has been jailed after providing practical cyber-security assistance to al-Qaeda and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. Yusuf Shah, from Ilford, was only 16 when he was stopped at Heathrow in January 2024 under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act. Police later discovered that he had downloaded instructions on making explosives and explosive devices, material on using different weapons, and an al-Qaeda publication containing practical guidance on carrying out terrorist attacks. But Shah was not simply consuming propaganda. On Telegram, he joined groups supporting terrorist organisations and offered his technical expertise. He advised members how to use an untraceable cryptocurrency to donate to al-Qaeda. A payment of $1,376.51 was subsequently made using the QR code and security methods he had recommended. He was also approached to produce a cyber-security guide for Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan after being told that a senior TTP official had requested help. Shah produced a document entitled “A Guide on Cybersecurity”, giving detailed instructions on cyber-security and cryptocurrency intended to help the terrorist group operate secretly. Police say Shah had been discussing religion online since 2021, when he was 13, and by the end of 2022 was expressing support for al-Qaeda and TTP. Now 18, he has been sentenced to four years and two months in custody and made subject to a 10-year notification order. This case also leaves some important questions unanswered publicly: • Where was Shah born, and what is his nationality and family background? • What school did he attend? • Did he attend a mosque, madrasa or other religious institution, and if so which one? • Was there any offline ideological influence from clerics, teachers, friends or relatives? • Did his family know about his extremist activity? • Were there earlier warnings from his school, community, social services or police? • Which online figures, channels and communities first introduced him to al-Qaeda and TTP propaganda? • Did he have direct contact with terrorist operatives beyond the interactions already disclosed? • Why was a 13-year-old able to progress from consuming extremist material to materially assisting terrorist organisations without earlier intervention?

A man jailed for immigration deception after a judge condemned his “deliberate, extended manipulation” of the system is now the BBC’s principal data scientist for Responsible AI, helping shape how the corporation uses AI and how news is represented through it. Hicham Yezza (picture here with Moazzam Begg, the former Guantánamo Bay detainee) was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2009 after falsely claiming he had permission to remain in Britain. He had overstayed his visa by more than five years. He later successfully appealed against deportation and is now a British citizen. Before joining the BBC, Yezza also described Hamas rocket attacks as “resistance”, accused Israel of ethnic cleansing and called it an apartheid regime built on stolen land. He founded the pro-Palestinian Ceasefire magazine and later joined BBC Monitoring in 2021, where The Telegraph says he produced reports concerning Gaza. His current BBC role involves guiding responsible AI policy and developing benchmarks for how AI assistants represent public-service news. There is an extraordinary contrast here. When the Asserson Report used AI alongside data scientists and other researchers to analyse millions of words of BBC Israel-Hamas coverage, the corporation responded: “We have serious questions about the methodology of this report, particularly its heavy reliance on AI to analyse impartiality.” Yet the BBC now entrusts a senior role in determining how AI should approach and represent news to someone who had publicly expressed such strongly anti-Israel views before joining it. The BBC says Yezza’s controversial statements and immigration case pre-date his employment, that he has not breached its social-media rules while working there, and that he stopped working for Ceasefire when he joined. So that's all OK then! An extraordinary background — and an extraordinary contrast in the BBC’s attitude towards AI scrutiny of news.

ISIS terrorist Mohammed Yaseen was reportedly free to walk the streets near Windsor Castle last week after serving around six months of a two-year sentence for entering Britain illegally by small boat. He was later recalled to prison after the Home Office was contacted about the case. The facts behind his case are extraordinary. German prosecutors said Yaseen planted at least 13 roadside bombs in Iraq, carried a Kalashnikov and guarded ISIS stonings, beheadings and mass executions, including executions in which children were among the victims. He was convicted in Germany of ISIS membership and jailed for nearly five years. After Germany tried to deport him to Iraq, a court blocked his removal because he could face mistreatment or execution there. He then travelled to Britain, reportedly telling officials he had seen on TikTok that the UK “accepts everyone” and “respects human rights”. He initially gave authorities a false identity and was only identified after fingerprint checks revealed who he really was. A British prosecutor later said Yaseen had a “deeper and lengthy involvement in terrorism and Islamic extremist ideology” and posed “a danger to the whole of the UK”.

Slavery In Modern Britain: More Than 7,000 Children Flagged As Potential Victims: A total of 7,028 children were referred as potential victims of trafficking or modern slavery in the UK in 2025 — up 16.5% in a year. More than half were British nationals, with 3,049 UK children referred. Criminal exploitation was the most common form recorded, accounting for half of child referrals. This includes children being used to supply or produce drugs, shoplift, launder money and carry offensive weapons. Among British children, referrals of boys exploited for criminal activity rose 22%. Sexual exploitation remained the main form reported among girls, with 549 referred in 2025. ECPAT UK warns the real scale of child exploitation is likely far higher, with many victims never identified by the authorities.

This was always the point: whatever the Labour government throws their way, this sort of organised campaign supported by a mob will never be content. They will take every concession as weakness, bank it, and go for more. Much like negotiating with Hamas over the last three years. So Starmer ‘recognising Palestin’ and Burnham and Miliband announcing sanctions on ‘settlers’ are simply met met with demands to do the same in the entire state of Israel — full ostracisation of the Jewish state. This was predictable. Miliband says to them “you were right”. They were never right. Still aren’t.
