Would you take a 40% pay cut? @BillyHallowell is one of the country’s premier reporters, focusing on issues of faith, politics, and culture. He’s interviewed everyone from the president to leading atheists. He’s also the author of four books. But when he was trying to decide what to do with his life and expressed an interest in journalism, more than one person told him, “that was stupid.” Luckily for us, Billy didn’t listen. In Episode 10 of “That Was Stupid,” Billy joins to talk about: -His wild journey to the top, including taking a 40% pay cut -How he dealt with the doubters -His favorite story -Listening to God’s voice -How someone you might recognize actually helped turbo his career -The time he “manifested a demon” -And more! You’ve got to hear these stories! 👇 jonseidl.substack.com/p/bill…

Want to know what an alcoholic looks like? Here’s the picture. I have been a professing Christian for as long as I can remember, and yet I became an alcoholic. I’ve worked with some of the biggest Christian names and outlets, and yet I developed a drinking problem. Full-blown. I’ve spent mornings talking about God on a podcast, and afternoons drunk on Gin. I’ve hosted and led a church small group buzzed. I’ve had a phone conversation with an elder after two drinks too many. And I’ve tried to cover it all up, lying to my wife and sacrificing time with my family in the process. Like Paul, I am the chief of sinners — but in my case, of sloshed sinners. Me, the man who spent time on staff at a church. Me, the “bestselling Christian author.” Me, the faith and mental health guy. Me, yes me. I am a Christian alcoholic. And there’s more of us than you realize. #alcohol #alcoholism #recovery #sober #sobriety #subercurious

Embarrassed. Scared. Free. At peace. Those are the words that describe me right now as I admit to you what's been going on the last year of my life: I am a recovering alcoholic. Addiction doesn't care who (bestselling author) or what (a Christian) you are. And it can sneak up on anyone. But God... While this last year has been the hardest of my life, it has also been the sweetest. Why have I been talking so much about faith and spirituality this year? Because it's the only thing that got me through the pain and the shame. It saved me -- again. If you want to know the full story, you can check it out below. There will be much more to say in the days, weeks, and even years ahead. And I'm an open book. But know this: if you're struggling, you are my people. I am your person. There is hope. jonseidl.substack.com/p/jon-…

THIS is what faith leaders like John MacArthur need to understand. Instead, they're dabbling in this idea of Gnosticism, which is a false belief that incorrectly elevates the spiritual over the physical. Mental health issues are BOTH physical AND spiritual.

Pastor John MacArthur (@johnmacarthur) has now doubled down on his anti-OCD and anti-PTSD stance with @conservmillen. I break down his argument and show the KEY point he’s refusing to see. In love. 👇 jonseidl.substack.com/p/john…

“I remember everything.” Those are the three words that have stuck with me the most since meeting 86-year-old Kurt Glover-Ettrich. Three words that say so much. That speak of inexplicable pain, hurt, and torture. Of evil. Kurt is a survivor of both the Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps, but I didn’t know that when I first met him. Most people don’t. That’s because the man who experienced so much tragedy serves as a part-time cleaner and part-time volunteer in the basement of the Mayo Clinic. He runs food, greets people, and picks up trash. He’s also the happiest person I have ever met. Joy leaps out of him like hot kernels in a popcorn machine. His face is the epitome of hope. How and why? Well, that’s a big part of his story. It’s a story you need to read. To share. Now more than ever, as the fires of anti-Semitism are stoked across the country and the world. jonseidl.substack.com/p/what…

Additional note on the @johnmacarthur issue: My full thoughts are in the article I wrote. My initial tweet yesterday I’ve deleted in favor of the full article. I’m much more measured in it than I was in my initial (passionate) reaction, especially to Costi Hinn. (I apologize for the “shame on him” comment. That was too far.) Open to thoughts, disagreements, and discussion! 👇👇👇 jonseidl.substack.com/p/why-…

Here's why John MacArthur is drastically wrong on mental health. As someone who has been diagnosed with anxiety, OCD, and depression (and who wrote a book on faith and mental health) let me walk you through this. 👇 jonseidl.substack.com/p/why-…
