🚨New working paper🚨 with Lorenzo Aldeco Local labor demand shocks in Mexico increase emp. more than wages: outside agriculture, a 1% demand-driven rise in male emp. raises wages 0.36%. Female labor supply is even more elastic. jorgeperezperez.com/files/Al… #EconTwitter #EconX

The Economics Nobel announcement we’d love to see if the prize served the interests of ordinary people rather than big capital.

You guys made us go through all this when 90% of TWFE estimates were fine?! :-)
Ok, this is in progress! Here's a preview (Top-5 pubs from the last ten years with a simple TWFE specification + replication data; matched samples between TWFE, Callaway-Sant'Anna, and Borusyak-Jaravel-Spiess) with thanks to Astra, Kevin Chen, & Jon Roth

#EconTwitter #EconX

Our work with Regina López-Ley, @maco_diego, and Stefano Molina is now a @Banxico working paper! During COVID-19, Mexico's Airbnb guests valued remote-work and open-space amenities more. Some changes persist post-pandemic! banxico.org.mx/publications-…

What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

#EconTwitter #EconX

-xtevent- spotted in the minimum wage debate 😀 Reminder that - xtevent- also allows for heterogeneous treatment effects with the Sun and Abraham estimator github.com/JMSLab/xtevent
Replying to @instrumenthull
In case you are doing it, please consider the importance of negative weights in not jut producing the wrong ATT (under heterogeneous treatment effects), but also in assessing the very validity of the parallel trends assumption (under heterogeneous pre-existing trends). Like here in Appendix C. This issue has not gotten as much attention as it might deserve in the DiD literature. nber.org/system/files/workin…

Using Sun and Abraham's method and extending the leads and lags can solve some of the issues shown: xitter.cf/jorpppp/status/2105803…
A few tokens later :D - xtevent should be used with impute(stag) under staggered adoption. Otherwise, it does not assign values to the treatment dummies outside the window. - with impute(stag), TWFE gets the pre-trend, but mistakes treatment effects at the right endpoint.
