I’m again reminded that some people thought having Covid was a work vacation… meanwhile I am stuck home alone for 5 days with a baby and 5 year old and wondering if I’m in the 10th circle of hell and it’s been less than 24 hours.

PSA: dermabond definitely does expire and in fact becomes unusable if old enough. You know, for any other medical professionals who have some at home “just in case”.

TIL, in fun useless knowledge, that pirates wore eye patches so they didn’t have to worry about adjusting to the light/dark! You’re welcome.

Hot take: if you are starting in a new ED (or anywhere?) your first shift there should not be solo.

PSA: don’t wait til the last day to get your car inspected. And they may only take cash. (Cash only can still be a thing in 2023??)

If will only meet with me one day out of the whole week and tell me this with 1 day notice, I’m not gonna feel bad if I can’t make it. ESPECIALLY when I’ve been asking for weeks and you didn’t reply. Don’t expect me to compensate for your poor planning.

Epic training for a new job, when you’ve been using it for nearly a decade is second level hell.

I am severely directionally challenged. Totally fine driving with Waze, but even if my life depended would still go the wrong way walking. Like even in a city I’ve lived in for 20+ years. If anyone has a good app, lmk! (Google is awful)

Ok #MedTwitter do you think, as an attending, you should have to do orientation, shadowing, etc BEFORE you are being paid? I don’t want to be unreasonable… I’ll have to arrange babysitters, so actively paying to go.

Kids are crazy. Or mine is - she woke up at 2 am and screamed “Make it snow” at me at the top of her lungs for 10 minutes. Started funny, quickly became obnoxious.

I don’t want to brag, but I’m pretty sure I have the only 4 yo in the world who has to be force fed ice cream if there’s medicine in it.

Exactly. With unique education and experience, this is our duty.
I wrote this with @cerouse and ⁦@KtMcH⁩ and Tracey Wilkinson about the fact that physicians have an obligation to speak out when they see patients at risk Being a physician advocate for fair health policy is part of the job statnews.com/2023/06/01/cait…

And just like that, 5 weeks before starting a new job, I lost my summer childcare. FML.
