With the seeming death of 3rd party apps on this site, it looks like that's it for me. So long and thanks for all the tweets. I'll be over at: @jprodgers@mastodon.social

I love that the US is dominated entirely by a wholly pointless and parasitic “health insurance” industry that has absolutely no objective reason to exist, cures no one, solves nothing, only rent seeks and creates needless Byzantine hurdles to basic care. This is my favorite part
Here's a scatterplot of health spending per capita (x axis) & life expectancy (y axis) in OECD countries (lines = averages).
One country sits alone in the bottom right quadrant due to its much higher spending and below-average life expectancy.

Let's be clear. Eli Lilly should apologize for increasing the price of insulin by over 1,200% since 1996 to $275 while it costs less than $10 to manufacture. The inventors of insulin sold their patents in 1923 for $1 to save lives, not to make Eli Lilly's CEO obscenely rich.

Looks like it's time to dust off my mastodon account: @jprodgers@mastodon.social
I'm not going to completely move over there just yet. Still watching this site burn down.

Whatever people think of masks for covid, the evidence is super duper clear that when we all wore masks there was no flu.
Epidemics dont have to “run their course”—we can cut this flu season short anytime we want with masking, hand-washing, and flu vaccines.
The U.S. is officially in a flu epidemic, federal health officials say. They’re preparing to deploy troops and ventilators if necessary fortune.com/well/2022/11/04/…
Got trained out on the new waterjet at work. Our previous one only had a 12x12 inch work area, new one is 2.5x5 feet. I can use it for personal projects during off hours, so now I need to come up with a project.
Having one of those days where I managed to convert from metric to metric incorrectly. Cable ended up being 10x as long as it was supposed to be. At least it wasn't short.

This past week my covid booster got cancelled because they ran out of vaccines, and now there are no appointments to schedule. I'm not sure if it's a good sign that demand is up, or bad that supply is down.

There's no better argument for a union than the way Starbucks has responded to the union.
Not only has Starbucks gone all out to destroy @SBWorkersUnited, it has also poured billions into improving pay, benefits, and conditions for other workers.
Unions make CEOs pay up.
Breaking--Even though the NLRB says it's illegal for Starbucks to give certain raises & benefits to its non-union employees, but not its unionized ones, Sbux defies the NLRB & now promises even more benefits to non-union baristas, but not to unionized ones

Forget quiet quitting—we need to talk about quiet fleecing. Workers are more productive than ever, but their pay hasn’t kept pace while top 1% wages have skyrocketed.

I know my friends in North America have very different Twitter feeds than mine (and our media would not dare publish this), so I want to show you what others around the world are thinking and feeling re: today's news.

We don't have public bathrooms because unhoused ppl might use them. We don't have benches because unhoused ppl might use them. We're cutting down trees because unhoused ppl might use them.
Hostile architecture harms us all. Evryone suffers when we try to harm the most vulnerable
