With wit, imagination, and a style entirely her own, Canadian poet Anne Carson has reimagined the classics. She has brought ancient stories to new audiences and transformed the way we think about literature.
Congratulations on winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, Anne. An extraordinary achievement and a proud moment for Canada.

Asked who would win in a hypothetical war between Canada and the U.S., @Gladwell tells @JeffreyGoldberg that Canada would prevail βbecause all of the American troops invade Canada, and then realize that they want to stay.β

Dear humans around the world:
That thunderclap you just heard came from Gander, Newfoundland.
At 92 years old, Jean Chretien just gave the speech of his life.
With the most memorable, important words of his life.
Because he speaks for what most Canadians are feeling in our stomachs and hearts today, better than anyone else could.
God bless him. God bless Canada.

My god, the way he captures us.
Never mistake our kindness for weakness.
Never mistake compassion for capitulation.
We bow to no one.

Jean ChrΓ©tien: "It looks like they don't know what to do. When your big thing is to change the name of a lake, it's because you're running out of arguments. It is a very weak gesture, to be cheap and nasty. Lake Ontario is not suffering. It's a lake."

Time to stop using @Google Cowards.
The U.S. Geographic Names Information System has formally changed the name for "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America" in the United States...people using [Google] Maps in the U.S. will see "Lake America"

What it sounds like when 16,000 Canadians just need a moment to belt out the words βout in the middle of Lake Ontarioβ right now

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontariβio, which, appropriately, means βthe lake is beautiful, the lake is bigβ.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario β then, now and always.

οΏΌItβs an honour to serve a Prime Minister, and a country, with the courage to engage the world as it is, not as it was. This is how we meet this moment with resolve π¨π¦
