Poland: A Russian citizen suspected of espionage has been arrested in the city of Świdnica. He was found photographing trains and railway infrastructure. Polish law enforcement detained a 55-year-old Russian man after observing him photographing passing trains and railway infrastructure. Hundreds of thousands of files of a similar nature were discovered on his devices, including photographs of various locations and transport infrastructure—not only within Poland. According to the Polish news outlet RMF24, the man is accused of espionage on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. The arrest took place during a security operation organized for a football match in Świdnica. The Russian citizen was inside a car parked near a level crossing; upon noticing the police, he shifted into reverse and drove away quickly. Officers later tracked him down near another piece of railway infrastructure. At the time of his detention, authorities seized professional photographic equipment, mobile phones, laptops, external hard drives, and several identity documents. The court has ordered him to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. Tomasz Siemoniak, the coordinator of Poland’s special services, highlighted how rare it is to successfully identify and arrest individuals directly involved in such activities: "The fact that we managed to arrest a Russian citizen engaged in this type of activity is quite exceptional. Such operations are always preceded by reconnaissance and information-gathering. 🕯️Five railway workers were killed yesterday on the platform of a train station in Dnipro. Among those who died: 🥀Yevheniy Kryvko, 38, a passenger assistance and support specialist. He leaves behind two minor children who have now lost their father. 🥀Ruslan Dyl, 48, a locomotive depot worker. He was simply returning home from a vacation. 🥀Yana Shpakova, 32, manager of a children’s play area at the station. She leaves behind a minor daughter who has now lost her mother. 🥀Kateryna Borysova, 60, a train attendant. 🥀Viktoriya Nosikova, 60, a train attendant. Friends, I’ll be honest: many of my own relatives work for the railways. I see just how dangerous this profession has become. The Russians attack Ukrainian trains and stations almost every single day. Ordinary civilians—people heading home, going to work, or traveling with their children—are under constant attack. Russia spares no one. Yet, despite the persistent danger, the Ukrainian railway continues to operate. Train attendants, station staff, engineers, and all other railway workers show up for their jobs every day, risking their own lives so that others can reach their loved ones, return home, or get to work on time.
