I can't code. I have hit walls in my career because of that inability. I've tried to learn, failed. Tried again, failed again. I learned to be okay with it. It's a blocker, not gonna lie. You're always reliant on someone else to implement, build, or see things though. I've learned how to work with developers to help build products, to be as close as possible to their workflow. I've pushed no-code tools like @webflow and @framer to their limits to make websites, apps, and actual products, but there's always been a big gap left unaddressed. Understanding data. Digging, sorting, grouping, aggregating, and checking to see actual numbers for usage, adoption, or just any idea that only the database can answer. I've always had to rely on a SQL-savvy developer for that. Like I said, I can't code, and I especially can't write SQL. I also don't like to distract developers just to see if a random thought related to our product is useful. A few months ago, we decided to see is we could use @OpenAI inside of @Basedash to solve that problem. We've been testing that AI-SQL assistant for a while, and today, we're launching it. It's amazing. And I'm not saying that because I design Basedash, I'm saying it because I'm now daily digging into our product DB to look up ideas I have around how our product is used. No more data blockers. No more waiting on developers to check an idea. No more distracting them from work just to help with a JOIN or mundane query. I just have to type in what I'm looking for, and the AI does the rest. It took a ton of work to get the integration right, but it's a massive feature for us to have in our product. I can't code, but with our SQL-assistant, I don't have to. You have to try this out with your data. Basedash is free for smaller teams. Like 5 minutes to set up, no joke. Also, for you skeptical devs out there, we restrict to only SELECT statements, so no way to break anything. Our entire driving force with this feature was to unblock devs, and to empower everyone else. You have to try this.

Keep an eye on @switchyards y'all. A monster ATL startup success story is hiding in plain sight.
Nashville!!!!!!! We don’t know what to say—all Founding Memberships and all regular $100 memberships sold out in seconds. Thank you for the love. To those who weren't able to secure a membership, we are truly sorry. We did not anticipate these selling out so quickly.

A while back, I was talking with a friend who'd moved to the US a few years prior At some point, I said something like "we Americans..." and he froze with shock. He asked, "Wait, do you think of me as American?" Without much thought, I said "Of course!" He paused for a while and then said, "Wow. Back home no one would ever refer to a recent immigrant that way. Heck, they wouldn't refer to any immigrant that way, even if they'd lived there for decades" While the US has a lot of problems (many of which are our own making), this moment made me swell with joy and pride for this special place Happy birthday, America. I'm so proud to be the citizen of a country where, if you choose to build your life here and contribute to your community, you can become an American too 🇺🇸

"The high expectations of venture-capital firms and investors in general can lead founders to turn to psychedelics to provide an edge. “They don’t want a normal person, a normal company,” he said. “They want something extraordinary. You’re not born extraordinary.”
A lot of that kind of exploration in my psychedelic experience helped give me a clarity that I had started this newsletter from a place of a wound. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Probably one of the main reasons we need more companies with IC tracks. Otherwise we’re in the cycle of: No IC track → designers who don’t want to or aren’t competent to be managers forced to become ones → incompetent DM do not create good design orgs → repeat – at Berlin, Germany
