Poor oral health is not inevitable in older age but many people who have medical, physical or cognitive impairments will suffer with substandard #mouthcare & barriers accessing dental treatment. ⁦@TheBDA⁩ ⁦@Gerodontology⁩ ⁦@MCM_HEKSS⁩ bda.org/learning-and-develop…

I cracked a tooth and had it pulled out by brilliant dentist today. Problem solved. They are open for emergencies simply to reduce any risk of extra strain on hospitals. Modest but real heroes.

This made me cry because this is what working in healthcare is all about - we will never forget about you because you are why we work in healthcare and why we do what we do - thank you Matt Morgan for speaking on behalf of us all
“We have not forgotten about you.” This is an open letter from Dr Matt Morgan, a consultant in intensive care medicine at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, to the elderly, frail, vulnerable, or those with serious underlying health conditions, during the Covid-19 outbreak.

A great read at the the end of a long day in special care. There are many days when you reflect and think the biggest difference you made to the quality of someone’s life was cleaning their mouth

Very relavent to the older population @CQCProf #smilingmatters highlighted urgent dental access as a problem for people in care homes. Although not right many older people with oral problems will see a doctor rather than a dentist @GeriSoc
The importance of training doctors on how to manage oral conditions is very important for people in hospitals and others long terms care facilities. 92% do not feel confident to do so nature.com/articles/s41415-0….
Did you watch #CrisisInCare on @BBCOne last week? It powerfully showed the struggle faced by people affected by dementia, like Barbara, as their families navigate the care system. Part 2 airs tomorrow at 9pm - let us know if you’ll be watching!

Dental caries and it’s impact must not be forgotten in this agenda. Tooth decay remains the number one reason for hospital admissions among young children across the UK #sugarsummit @TheBDA @TheBMA bda.org/news-centre/press-re…
Reducing the sugar content of certain foods by 2020, in line with UK government policy targets, could cut child obesity and save the NHS in England £286 million over 10 years, suggests a new study in @bmj_latest ow.ly/dFpl30osiSC Linked editorial: ow.ly/VGDV30osiSD
A very BIG thank you to all of the NHS doctors, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, porters, cooks, electricians, cleaners, call handlers, physios, midwives, radiographers, social workers, dentists + many others working this Easter weekend #TeamNHS #BankHolidayWeekend 🐣🐣🐣
