Three months since he collapsed, I finally had the opportunity to see and meet my leader, @kizzabesigye1! Before meeting him, I had imagined so many things about his appearance and current condition. It broke my heart to see that he is now being taught how to walk and talk again. A speech therapist was using a word chart with simple words like "dog" and "boy," which KB is supposed to try his hardest to pronounce, though he hasn’t succeeded yet. KB uses an alphabetical letter chart where he taps out letters for you to write down and piece together what he is saying. Sensing that I was shocked about his current state, he pointed that “it could have been worse.” We both would laugh when he would check my notes and realize I had written something completely different from what he was spelling out! 🙈🙈 I tried to defend myself by saying that’s what he had tapped, and we would laugh again. When I ran out of excuses for my mistakes, I reminded him that my eyes aren't fully functional, which is why I wear glasses. 🙈 KB is now also an expert of sign language, when he gets tired of using the chat, he uses signs 😳 He hears very well, but he not able to talk yet. I commended his sharp brain of being able to communicate by tapping letters of alphabet. He doesn’t remember exactly what happened at court, he remembers waking up days later while in the ICU at Mulago. As we conversed, I was drinking water, When I offered him a bottle as well, I was reminded that he cannot hold a bottle of water on his own. His hands aren’t firm, they are shaky and lack strength. He stated that we are back in the 1890s but encouraged us to hang in there. He said that under the current regime, just staying alive is an achievement. Salongo @EriasLukwago is his neighbor in the same facility, but they have never met. I informed him how Lukwago was taken to Mulago. Seeing KB in state he is was incredibly painful, but his enduring spirit and sharp mind remind me why he is the leader he is. Please keep KB in your thoughts and prayers as he walks this long, difficult road to recovery. His resilience gives me hope that we will get through this dark chapter. Long live KB🙏🏻 #FreeKizzaBesigye #freeallpoliticalprisoners

Message to President Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. (Continued 2/2) Mr. President, @KagutaMuseveni Many Ugandans have been forced into exile, fearing for their lives. Others have been pushed to seek employment in foreign countries where their safety and well-being are not guaranteed, simply to fend for themselves and their families. Among those in exile is the President of the Uganda Law Society, Isaac Ssemakadde. I, a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, and many other Ugandans are currently living involuntarily in exile, having been forced to flee for fear of our lives. Your election win was secured in darkness in the midst of a nationwide Internet shutdown. The statements and actions that have followed since you were declared the winner continue to raise questions whether you actually won the election. If you won legitimately, repression is unnecessary. If repression exists, legitimacy is in question. Your manifesto did not include hunting down those who didn't support you.  Elections in any democratic country are competitive. They are always people who support the candidate who emerges as the winner and those who support other candidates in the race.  So is Uganda different from other countries. Did you expect all Ugandan voters to vote for you? Is there a country where that happens? Mr. President, you spent many years fighting for freedom. You have been in leadership for over 40 years. The country is walking on the roadmap you set in motion when you took over power by the gun in 1986, which resulted in the 1995 Constitution of Uganda that came into effect under your leadership.  Mr. President, you were born Ugandan, like the citizens now living in fear, prison, or exile. Uganda is our only country. We did not choose to be born in Uganda, but we must live in our motherland. I write to you as a citizen addressing a leader entrusted with immense power and responsibility. You control the army, the police, the Electoral Commission, and state institutions. With that control comes responsibility. Please put our house (Uganda) in order by: 1. Exercising your authority as President of Uganda to restore the rule of law so that Ugandans can live without fear. 2. Exercising your authority as Commander-in-Chief to stop abuses by security forces and ensure all state institutions act within the law. 3. Allowing all citizens and political actors to exercise their constitutional rights without fear. 4. Returning the country to constitutional governance, where courts function independently, political activity is lawful, and citizens are not punished, exiled, imprisoned, or silenced for their political views. 5. Stop labeling political opponents and their supporters as terrorists or as confused. 6. Stop the violence and the killings. As Commander-in-Chief, you must ensure that all suspects are handled through lawful arrest and tried before competent courts, not executed by security forces. 7. Stop the abductions of opposition leaders. 8. Stop terrorizing Ugandans who support other political parties. 9. Stop the siege on your political rivals’ homes. 10. Stop labeling political opponents as terrorists. Uganda deserves dignity. Uganda deserves justice. Uganda deserves peace. FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. Respectfully, Justice Dr. Esther Kitimbo Kisaakye. Former Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda. January 25, 2026

Replying to @CanaryMugume
Violence has no gender. Responsibility has no gender. Pain has no audience.A man can bleed in silence, can parent in exile, can love through locked doors and still be judged by a world that only listens to one drum. Guard your peace. Let the courts and the truth do their work. May every man reading this learn that silence is not nobility when your name is being auctioned. Speak once, speak clearly, and return to building your destiny.

Yasin Ssekitoleko aka Machete's health has been deteriorating from the day he embarked on a hunger strike on the 19th of this month. For five days now, he has not been taking meals at Kitalya Prison in protest of his continued illegal detention. Machete is one of the nine @NUP_Ug political prisoners who refused to plead guilty to crimes they did not commit, and Museveni's minister Balaam promised that those who refused would die in prison. After 4 years in detention without trial, and following the Supreme Court ruling, he has been protesting the regime's deliberate decision to keep them under illegal detention. This evening, prison authorities made a panic call to his mother, asking her to speak with her son on phone and persuade him resume taking meals. According to her, Machete was too weak to even speak elaborately on phone. He is crying out for justice on his behalf and on behalf of the other prisoners of conscience! #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersinUganda #FreeUganda

During their political campaigns, they take advantage of people’s problems, pretending to care. They recite community problems until their eyes turn teary. They visit your miserable health centres and shanty schools and shake their heads in concern, feigning disbelief. They tell you how lobbying for health, agriculture, and education is going to be their priority. They dance themselves lame for you at rallies, to make you think that they are together with you and that they are down to earth - men and women of the people. When you finally get to know what they extravagantly award and spend on themselves, they ask you: “Isn’t it on our budget? Isn’t it legal?” At that point, they don’t want to ask if it is REASONABLE or CONSIDERATE amidst your problems that they promised to prioritise. After all the promises, the money milked from your hard labour is splashed on them, legally of course. Their argument now is that, as long as something is legally budgeted for, it’s okay. Never mind that it is some of the same people trying to tell us how the Public Order Management Act and a couple of other repressive laws are wrong. Indeed, law is just but what the strong use to legitimate their desires. They’ve talked themselves sweaty in defence of their opulence in a country where a huge percentage wallow in squalor. In 2026, they will back to you dancing and buying alcohol- for you to drink yourself into constant stupidity, and send them back to their banquet. A legal banquet, of course. On a legally passed budget, of course. Deserved, of course. For those very important REPRESENTATIVES of our pains. How more stupid is the voter assumed to be!
