I don't usually jump into Twitter debates, but I'm ready to offer my 2 cents on the growth mindset meta-analyses. I've already seen comments that I agree with pointing out that growth mindsets aren't intended to be considered as an overall main effect; (1/n)

Remember this picture every single time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s, via @fietsprofessor. The cities we admire made better choices regarding cars, and are still making them today. Better choices instead of excuses.

A reminder that Elsevier made $10.5 BILLION in 2022 from selling your academic journals and articles behind paywalls, and make more profit than Amazon, Google, and Apple every year… And paid the academics who wrote the articles $0 And paid the reviewers of the articles $0

Bicycling in 🇩🇰Copenhagen revolutionized my 🇺🇸American mind. In Copenhagen, I saw an efficient & safe transportation system that is not centered upon the car. I am told over and over again by Americans that is impossible in the US - but it’s only impossible in the American mind.
Sometimes I forget how much cycling is a part of the Danish society. I got a letter today with a stamp of a cargo bike. It is not perfect here, but this is probably the best stamp in the world. 😉 🚲❤️ #cycling @CyclingEmbassy @EuCyclistsFed

Every time you see a giant tax prep corporation’s Super Bowl ad, remember this: they can afford to shell out millions for glitzy marketing because they’ve reaped huge profits by lobbying Washington to make tax time as much of an expensive hassle as possible.

How can teachers promote student independence *and* communicate their high expectations to their students? My research shows that teachers can achieve both goals by offering written feedback that offers students agency. We call it 'agentic feedback.' 🧵1/4 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

We’re not saying cities should ban cars. We’re arguing they should stop privileging and prioritizing motor vehicles at the expense of every other mode; forcing dependence through design. With that revolutionary act, they become far better places for everyone, including drivers. – at Delft, Nederland

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study. This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

So many benefits - better health, less stress, stronger communities, less pollution, more child friendly and safe, less crowded streets, higher quality of life. Love cities that offer this choice and opportunity.

NY Times is right: “While adding lanes can ease congestion initially, it can also encourage people to drive more. A few years after a highway is widened, research shows, traffic — and the greenhouse gas emissions that come along with it — often returns.” nytimes.com/2023/01/06/us/wi…

Whenever they tell you a change is impossible, show them Utrecht. An urban freeway with many lanes can become a green park with a beautiful canal. Instead of a car sewer, the water flows.
