The Crime Survey for England and Wales estimated 9.7 million incidents of headline crime (theft, robbery, criminal damage, fraud, computer misuse, and violence with or without injury) in year ending (YE) June 2026, no statistically significant change compared with YE June 2025.

ALT While results from the crime survey paint a relatively stable picture, there has been an increase in theft from outside homes in the past year, as well as more victims reporting fraud and computer misuse. Billy Gazard, Head of Statistical Outputs, Centre for Crime and Justice, ONS

ALT Many aspects of police recorded crime have fallen. Homicide is at one of the lowest levels seen this century. Gun crime and knife crime are both down. The number of reported shoplifting offences has also fallen over the past year. Billy Gazard, Head of Statistical Outputs, Centre for Crime and Justice, ONS
