My entire life changed when I realized that anything above zero compounds. That showing up consistently matters more than showing up perfectly. That small things become big things. Never allow optimal to get in the way of beneficial.

I had a great time on Masoyinbo, exploring the importance of Yoruba in our society and why we must preserve the language, celebrate our culture and pass our rich heritage on to future generations.
Yoruba is more than a language. It is part of our identity, history, values and what connects us as a community. While our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, preserving our indigenous languages is a responsibility we all share.
Building a greater Lagos means investing not only in infrastructure and public services but also in our people, culture and values. We must work together to keep our heritage alive for generations to come.
Masoyinbo is doing a wonderful job of preserving our heritage while keeping us informed and entertained, whether in Lagos or anywhere else in the world.

I’m convinced that the ability to remain unshaken by the minor inconveniences of life puts you ahead of 95% of people. Emotional control is the ultimate power. Few have it. Not every collision or slight deserves your energy. You can just let them float by.

Sad to learn about the passing of Prince Sehinde Odimayo. He once served on the advisory board of an art project I consulted for. A gentleman and eagle eye, he once picked out a misattributed replica Enwonwu as an art collector showed us some of his hoard. May he Rest in Peace.

As early as 1984, Nigerians had realized the appreciation of the value of land in Ikoyi and Victoria Island in Lagos. This realization led people to go as far as taking loans from banks to buy land in these places then rent them out at expensive prices.
The Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria in 1984, Chief Asabia, says "he [the land owner] will get N50,000 by way of rent in a year, and he will get a minimum of 4 to 5 years rent in advance. So the first slot of payments he receives has cleared his loan in advance, paid his interest on it, and is still substantially okay. He can get another land or buy himself another house in Knightsbridge. It's typical"

We are delighted to announce Haneefah Adam as the winner of the inaugural Ventures Platform–YSMA Futures Art Award, a public art commission launched as part of our three-year collaboration with the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art and Pan-Atlantic University. Established in celebration of Ventures Platform’s 10th anniversary, the partnership brings together art, innovation, and entrepreneurial learning through a university-wide engagement programme and an annual commission for public-facing sculptures that explore innovation, the future, and public engagement.
A multidisciplinary artist, Haneefah’s practice spans sculpture, installation, painting, photography, embroidery, digital illustration, and food art. Her work explores identity, memory, culture, motherhood, and representation, and has been exhibited locally and internationally, with features by CNN, BBC, and the Financial Times.
Selected through a competitive open call and rigorous jury process, Haneefah’s winning proposal, Bloom in Unexpected Places, stood out for its originality, conceptual strength, and compelling interpretation of the Award’s theme: Reimagine the future and build into form through art.
As the inaugural recipient, she will create a 12-foot public sculpture to be permanently installed within the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art and Pan-Atlantic University environment, creating a space for reflection, gathering, and imagining more humane futures.
We look forward to unveiling Bloom in Unexpected Places this October.

Another fun fact:
That entire area where the National Stadium Complex is today used to be a National Park: Kukwaba National Park.
The Kukwaba Hills are still in the area, popular with climbers and hikers.
Replying to @toluogunlesi
Between the 3 Arms Zone and Aso Rock (the actual Rock) in the original Abuja Plan, lay a National Arboretum (Botanical Park full of trees) It's actually still there, only now inaccessible. I'm guessing (just a guess) it would have been like NYC's Central Park.

10 years! 🎉
A decade ago, we started with a simple belief — that Africa's most transformative ideas were already here, waiting to be backed, built, and believed in.
From an on-campus accelerator in an art-wrapped container building to an institutional fund that has backed over 100 companies across the continent — we've spent ten years investing in founders, in systems, and in the environments where innovation takes root.
As we mark this anniversary, we've been reflecting on what the next ten years ask of us. So in the spirit of who we are, we've partnered with the Pan-Atlantic University @pau_nigeria and Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art @shyllonmuseum on two initiatives: a Student Entrepreneurship Engagement Programme and the VP–YSMA Futures Art Award.
Because the next ten years will be built by people who are equal parts curious, creative, and courageous.
Watch our Founding Partner, @kola_aina , share more.
