#VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is advising the public not to disclose banking information after a staff member at a downtown organization was defrauded of $34,000 after receiving a phone call from someone posing as a bank representative.
The caller, who used a spoofed phone number, appeared to have detailed information about the victim's banking accounts. During a call that lasted more than an hour, the suspect convinced the victim to provide information that allowed access to two bank accounts.
The victim later discovered that the accounts had been drained of approximately $18,000 and $16,000, for a total loss of $34,000. The incident was reported to police.
The VPD is reminding the public to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls from anyone claiming to represent a financial institution. Never provide personal or banking information over the phone unless you have independently verified the caller's identity.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact your bank directly using the phone number listed on your bank card or the bank’s official website.

Suspect sought in gang-conflict-related stabbing on Granville Sat morning.
#VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) are investigating after multiple people were stabbed during a violent altercation in the Granville Entertainment District early Saturday morning.
On October 17, just before 3:00 a.m., VPD officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a bar on Granville Street near Smithe Street.
Witnesses reported an altercation that escalated inside the establishment involving three male patrons, resulting in all three sustaining stab wounds from an unidentified suspect.
A male bar employee was also injured while attempting to intervene.
Responding officers administered first aid at the scene until paramedics arrived. All four individuals were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect remains at large. He is described as a Black man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with dreadlocks, and was last seen wearing a black puffy jacket.
“We believe this was a targeted incident tied to the Lower Mainland gang conflict,” said Constable Darren Wong. “We are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation, or who has information about what happened, to come forward and speak with our investigators.”
At this time, the investigation continues and anyone with information or video footage about the incident is asked to contact the VPD Major Crimes at 604-717-2500.

In 2020, two separate Vancouver Police investigations into the production and trafficking of fentanyl in Vancouver led to multiple drug and firearm charges against Cody Casey. Two years later, and just two weeks before his trial, he cut off his court-imposed ankle monitoring bracelet and fled the country.
Sergeant Danielle Brock set out to find Casey and undertook an extraordinary investigation that spanned 14 countries.
She developed strong relationships with provincial, federal, and international agencies, and her unrelenting pursuit started to pay off in 2023 when she obtained an Interpol Red Notice requesting law enforcement worldwide locate and arrest Casey. He was also added to Canada’s Most Wanted Fugitive List, and a $100,000 reward was offered through the Bolo Program for information leading to his whereabouts.
Sergeant Brock tracked the fugitive to St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where she travelled in the fall of 2023. She missed him by mere hours, but returned to Vancouver with multiple investigative leads. The following year, she located Casey in Oman. He was arrested by the Royal Oman Police in October 2024.
After working with the RCMP and the Canadian government to seek extradition, Cody Casey was returned to Vancouver in April 2025.
For her exceptional work ethic and dedication in ensuring a high-level fentanyl producer and trafficker was brought to justice, Sergeant Danielle Brock was awarded the Chief Constable’s Commendation.

Great news that no one was injured. Hearing this was an attempt at retaliation for Monday’s fatal shooting in Langley.
Surrey police are on scene following a confirmed shooting outside a residential complex near 2nd Ave/ 175A St in South Surrey.
SPS say two suspects, described as men wearing dark clothing, reportedly fled on foot after firing multiple shots. An uninjured individual located at the scene is believed to have been the intended target, who is safe now.
Police have contained the area & are searching for the suspects, who remain at large.
SPS say the incident was targeted but is not believed to be related to extortion.
